Emily Bull’s Cannes Diary #5

Emily Bull, co-founder and managing director at Hellofuture.TV is representing Australia on the Cannes Entertainment Lions jury. Bull, along with most of the other Australian and NZ jurors writes exclusively for CB.

It’s amazing how much progress has taken place, Cannes is now ready for the insanity of the Lions to invade. The Croisette is lined with rebranded beach cafes now “The Facebook beach bar” a ‘Spotify event lounge”, a Snapchat gallery, The Havas bar, the WPP beach bar . . . (There’s too many to name!) The take over is 100% and now complete.

Today in the jury room, we agreed and finalised the Entertainment short list. There was much discussion on Entertainment v Ads, as we worked category through category and finally arrived at this list: https://www.canneslions.com/enter/awards/entertainment/entertainment-lions

I’ve heard rumours of fierce and lengthy discussions/arguments in other Jurys, but it’s been rather phenomenal just how aligned the Entertainment Jury is!

We’re a broad mix of countries, some clients (Lego/Marvel/Apple) some big wig Creative Directors, Phenomenal Exec Producers, Game Creators and yet we are aligned on what we’re looking for:
– Is the work worthy of a person’s time or a brands investment?
– Did it contribute to culture or society
– Was it great?
– Is it sustainable? As in, is it pushing a brand or business objective and having a continued voices

Gold silver and bronze being judged tomorrow on our last and final day.
