BBDO Korea’s President and CEO Seung-Hyun Chung retires and Jang-Yong Kim named Managing Director

BBDO Korea’s President and CEO Seung-Hyun Chung has retired after twelve years of working with BBDO and a career in advertising spanning almost four decades.

Throughout his career, Chung has worked with large, local and global clients such as AmorePacific (#1 cosmetics player in Korean market), Kodak, Johnson & Johnson, Nestlé, Walt Disney, KFC, Unilever, and Hite.

Chung joined BBDO Korea in 2008 after seven years as President of JWT Korea. Under his leadership, BBDO cemented their position as the leading IMC agency in Korea and has enjoyed continued growth for four consecutive years. His retirement has been planned for the last 18 months and BBDO Worldwide wishes him a long and happy next chapter. SH Chung commented “It was real pleasure to work with great colleagues as well as wonderful clients at BBDO Korea. For the last twelve years, I’ve been focused on leading the agency to be well prepared in the fast-changing industry environment and I strongly believe JY Kim will build solid foundations to grow BBDO Korea further together with all of the staff with passion and dedication.”

With this news, BBDO Korea has appointed Jang-Yong Kim (pictured) as its new Managing Director. Kim joined BBDO Korea 3 months ago, after a decade at Cheil worldwide where he was Executive Account Director and led IMC campaigns for AmorePacific, Maeil Dairies, CJ Foodville, Dong-a Pharm, Adidas and more.

Kim is a leader in the advertising industry in Korea and has been recognised throughout his career for great client relationships, building strong brands and for awards including the Grand Prize Ad Awards by Citizen 2019, This Year’s Ad Awards 2018, Korea YouTube 2017 for Popular Advertising Contents, Bronze Ad Fest 2008 and more. He is greatly trusted by his partners and clients and brings his passion and ability to drive growth to BBDO Korea.

Jean-Paul Burge, Chairman & CEO of BBDO Asia commented, “I have worked with SH over the last decade, finding someone to fill his shoes was a daunting prospect. He is a superb partner, and great adman. Our search for the right candidate to take over from him was both very long in terms of meeting several candidates over several months and very short once we met JY. He is superbly aligned to our values, wants to make great work, gets the realities of modern marketing and is very network minded. I am delighted he is on our team and look forward to us working together over the coming years.”

Kim added, “I am thrilled to have joined BBDO and the Omnicom Group Network, the best agency group in the world. BBDO has an extraordinary pool of talent and the proven expertise to face our ever-changing industry environment. This coupled with our strong culture positions us perfectly to drive growth for both our current and future clients. My immediate ambition is to harness and amplify our strengths as a worldwide network agency, and I’m thoroughly looking forward to working with BBDO in leveraging our rich resources to deliver this growth to our clients’ businesses.”
