Campaign Brief recognises and showcases the great work that is being produced in the region with The Work 2023 Contenders…

Tourism Australia: Come and Say G’Day
Production Company: FINCH
Director: Michael Gracey
When a charismatic toy unicorn with questionable magical abilities (Will Arnett) is accidentally delivered to the wrong gift shop in a strange country, a forgotten Kangaroo souvenir (Rose Bryne) seizes the opportunity to befriend him and escape her dusty top shelf to see the sights she’s always dreamt of. From coffee guzzling in Melbourne to traversing Katherine Gorge in an Akubra, Ruby and Louie’s tour of Australia’s is a meticulous combination of narrative and spectacle, leading its characters to discover a different kind of magic; a country which is no stranger to telling great stories.

Australia for UNHCR: The Reluctant Shanty
Production Company: FINCH
Director: Kyra Bartley
‘The Reluctant Shanty’ features real-life refugees, who sing a shanty written from multiple interviews with refugees about dangerous sea crossings they made to escape persecution and conflict. Crafted with an elevated visual style and raw intimacy, The Reluctant Sea Shanty witnesses three refugees stranded in the ocean. In the film, real-life casting and naturalistic performances meet a poetic visual style – where the refugees’ experiences are stripped back to their essential symbols – the eerie calm of a vast foreboding ocean and the melancholy of empty life vests. The Reluctant Shanty shines light on the hope and strength of the refugees who risk everything to arrive not only in Australia, but countless other countries around the world.

UN Women: Equality: Our Final Frontier
Production Company: FINCH
Director: Jonny Kofoed
With robo-farms, humans walking on Mars, and a Moon colony all predicted to happen before we reach global gender equality, space isn’t our final frontier – gender equality is. “Equality: Our Final Frontier”, is an eerie, animated film that shows a woman leaving a protest march in 2022 and walking through a future that changes in every area except gender equality. The film uses AI animation techniques to transform live action footage into animation, placing a real woman into an otherworldly, imagined future. Existing and emerging technology, as well as real projections, visualise the incredible milestones humans are currently expected to reach before gender equality.

Australia Post: Spread the Merry
Production Company: FINCH
Director: The Bobbsey Twins From Homicide
This is a Christmas story about the only other person who could pull off a big red delivery like Australia Post – Santa. Our inflatable hero has floated off from his Suburban front yard for an impromptu and unplanned – yet epic – adventure. A truly Australian Christmas tale which showcases how no matter your whereabouts, Australia Post can help you connect with the ones you love at Christmas.

ALDI: Shop Aldi First
Production Company: FINCH
Director: Christopher Riggert
In “Shop Aldi First”, Aldi says it’s okay with shoppers seeing other supermarkets. The tale of longing riffs on cinematic genres to transform an everyday encounter into a romantic epic. The spot reframes the role ALDI plays in shoppers’ weekly supermarket routines, positioning itself as the first shop for all Aussie’s grocery needs.

Toyota HiLux: The Visitor
Production Company: FINCH
Director: Benji Weinstein
‘The Visitor’ shows just how far a person’s ‘unbreakable’ connection to their HiLux goes in this ghostly tale. Since HiLux was first launched in Australia back in 1968, Australians have held a deep emotional bond to the vehicle and Toyota wanted to dramatise just how deep a family’s connection to their HiLux runs.
