Rob Gaxiola.jpgOgilvy & Mather Singapore confirmed today that speculation that Robert Gaxiola has decided to leave the agency after two years is true.

Gaxiola joined Ogilvy & Mather Singapore in 2009 as interim Executive Creative Director. Prior to this appointment he was based in San Francisco working at Goody, Silverstein and Partners after joining from FCB Singapore.

During Gaxiola’s time at Ogilvy Singapore, the agency has been named Singapore Creative Agency of the Year by Campaign Brief Asia in 2009 and 2010. More recently, his work for Faber Castell picked up the prestigious D&AD Yellow Pencil.

“Rob joined the Singapore office when the creative department was in disarray,” explained Eugene Cheong, Regional Executive Creative Director of Ogilvy & Mather APAC.

“He bought us time to look for a creative leader who would united the multidisciplinary Singapore superhub. That person, of course, is Steve Back. During Rob’s tenure, the Singapore creative department won a truckload of accolades, including a Yellow Pencil, two Silver Lions and three Bronze Lions. He is leaving the agency a lot stronger than he found it. Now, he’s off to write his book. I look forward to working with him again after he becomes a published author.”

Said Gaxiola: ” I was supposed to spend six months at Ogilvy as the Interim Executive Creative Director. I stayed on for two years. I’m leaving with a D&AD Yellow Pencil, a few Silver Lions and a huge dose of growing up. My first love is still writing, so I’m back to finishing my novel before starting any other creative venture.”
