TBWA\Vietnam hooks up with H2O Pro Lures
TBWA\Vietnam has created a new poster campaign for H2O Pro Lures and Tackle. The company based in Hong Kong, with offices in Johannesburg, South Africa and Zhuhai, China, manufactures high quality fishing lures for the global salt water and fresh water fishing market.
The series of posters over-dramatizes the realism of H2O Pro Lures by showing various animals (cat, seagull and grizzly bear) that have mistaken the lures for live bait.

Ha! Well done.
Terrible idea. The worst thing that can happen when you’re fishing is you catch a seagull etc, This idea would make me avoid the product and I love fishing.
John Merrifield, creative at large, TBWA\Asia Pacific: “I don’t expect the penalties to have much impact considering that scamming one’s way to notoriety is fairly well entrenched in Asia. Scam adverts are fool’s gold – only Muppets need apply. One or two agencies seem to have made a cottage industry out of it. The silliest bit is the excuses they come up with to justify the indulgence. Delusions of adequacy?”
Yes! I remember when he said that!!!
There’s too much copy in it to be scam! An email and web address. Whoaaa!
12.01 You have a point. But it’s only advertising. The campaign is still nice.
Nice to see TBWA trying to do some good work. It would be good to see that happening here in Singapore.
What does creative at large means?
Done idea by Bangkok agency 5 years back. Much stronger art direction by the Thais.
7.04. Yes it’s only advertising… but isn’t advertising supposed to sell products…or at least make you feel good about them…. As a person who loves fishing I’d avoid this product…It’s just another example of advertising people advertising to themselves…Not even a new idea…TBWA letting themselves down if they think it’s good..
Agree with1:21. Seen this idea as well. Guess they just wasted some dong into entries. But then again, it could be a shocking finalist if it’s
‘largely’ influenced by John.
Jabs aside, this is a good solid campaign. It’s obvious there are people who aren’t big Merrifield fans. But if you compare these to the Thai work, they are different, yet similar. Just as different and similar as VB The Regulars campaign from Droga5 and Bud Light’s Real Men of Genius from DDB (DDB did it first btw). Look them up you’ll see. I can see where an avid fisher may find it wrong, but then it’s as wrong as saying that all mac users look, talk and dress like Justin Long. Food for thought guys.
makes me want to avoid the product, fisherman still care about wildlife, and this promotes why I shouldn’t use lures.
