Richard_Cotton.jpgRichard Cotton has been promoted from Business Director to Client Service Director at TBWA\Shanghai.

Cotton (left) graduated from the University of Manchester in 1997 with a degree in Politics and Modern History. He joined TBWA\London soon after and worked across a range of accounts and assignments during his decade at the agency. These included Mars, Häagen-Dazs, Virgin and Amnesty International.

In 2007, Cotton transferred to TBWA\Shanghai as a Group Acount Director and was promoted to Business Director in 2010. During that time he grew Pernod Ricard into the agency’s largest account, and was appointed as Global Brand Director for the Royal Salute brand. He is also responsible for the adidas account and leads strategic new business pitches.

Cotton’s responsibilities will include recruitment, talent and training across the account management function, ensuring consistent expectations, behaviours and best-in-class delivery.

Cotton commented on the appointment, “In today’s fragmented media landscape the role of the account man, orchestrating the implementation of big ideas across different channels and disciplines, is more important than ever. With the client list that we have at TBWA\Shanghai, being asked to lead a team of passionate people to deliver break through campaigns is not only a huge honour, but a massive opportunity.”

Ian Thubron, President TBWA\Greater China, commented, “Richard has TBWA blood running in his veins. He’s proven himself a true builder of talent and teams; he has business nous and a good, creative eye. His clients and his people utterly endorse this promotion and there’s no greater accolade for an account man than that.”
