James Procter to leave Ogilvy Singapore

Campaign Brief Asia heard today that James Procter is to leave his ECD post at Ogilvy & Mather Singapore. Procter has been in the role for less than 12 months having joined the agency soon after leaving Y&R Singapore in June last year. His departure was confirmed today by Ogilvy Regional Creative Chairman Eugene Cheong. There are no plans to replace Procter according to Cheong.
Procter moved to Singapore in December 2009 after he transferred from the ECD role at George Patterson Y&R Sydney. Ogilvy & Mather Advertising Singapore managing director Dan Gibson is also confirmed to be leaving.

This is what happens when you don’t win for Khai.
ECDs, even YOU have to be careful who you piss off in this town….a creative here..another there…it starts with a handful and grows into a movement…before you know it…no more pepper crab and east coast park for you.
So take heed, don’t talk to your creatives rudely like they’re crap, don’t belittle them in front of everyone, don’t come with a stupid idea on the spur of the moment and force them to execute it for you (do it yourself if you believe in it so passionately), and sometimes allow your people to fail so they will learn. You don’t have to be the big dick in the room and save the agency and the world all the time.
wha??? didn’t see that coming. That’s a loss for Ogilvy!
…will eventually come in, sooner or later. C’est Ogilvy.
Everyone in ogilvy is rejoicing
Does that mean he’s coming back to Oz?
I like him. This isn’t personal. But neither of these guys are very good around here. The @#$! OFF! attitude is already boring. Talking to people like they are 2nd class citizens in their own country isn’t right for any body.
Steve introduced him as a great writer. We have good writers at Ogllvy. In the end both of these guys were found out. Cannes said it all.
He isn’t totally responsible for the winning for Khai. Steve Back controls the award entries. You can’t blame Proctor. Making him the fall guy isn’t fair and we all know it.
Proctor and Dan are out. More will be announced on Monday. Maybe Juggi will step up and ECD for Ogilvy now that they are in trouble.
Fiona said Back is doing a great job. He won shortlists.
Proctor did that Coke Love Seat. He also handed out pro-bono briefs with Stevo the CCO. NO SCAM became SCAM IT UP FOR CANNES at all costs. People here worked all night. None of them senior. It was brutal. And we are quietly losing more business because nobody was paying attention.
The CCO controls all the award entries and approves all the work. Proctor had an ECD title but was more of a CD role. The CCO told us that he had to win 5 Lions to satisfy his contract when he joined us. Thanks to Juggi he won some shortlists and 2 scamish bronzes. Don’t blame Proctor for what happened in Cannes. Juggi save us!!!!
He did a good job as any in that madhouse. The creatives are a brave bunch. Will Melvyn take over now?
I say, where in the world is Richard Copping these days…Cannes used to be his speciality.
Wow. I have been out of there for over 2 years. And it sound exactly the same.
Its so easy to take shots at someone behind the cloak of anonymous. Ogilvy is a ridiculously tough job and he did better than most.
Ogilvy’s loss. He’s a talent. And a nice guy.
Some sayings come to mind that apply to all of you that have written so far, you all appear to be from within the agency – ‘put up or shut up’ or ‘can’t stand the heat then get the f@ck out the kitchen’. Here’s the thing – if you don’t like your work place then you can always leave! You are apparently this amazing, under utilized creative, I’m sure the other agencies would just love to have you.
And for all the sudden Proctor fans, from my understanding of the past year, you all bitched like crazy about him – make your mind up.
@ I’m a lover.Not a hater
It’s ‘cloak of anonymity’! Not a cloak of anonymous- A writer’s writer would know better.
And it ain’t so ridiculously tough a job as long the right guy does it..
Didn’t the last bloke win more at Cannes while spending less?
In fact he did so well, he could afford to donate a few spare Lions to the KL office.
@Puh-lease
If you think all the pro-procter comments are not from the same writer, then you certainly got a problem at cecil street.
If the numbers are to be believed, then here’s certainly something ‘rotten in the state of Denmark!’
To heal this divided agency, I’d recommend a staff engagement survey. It will certainly costs less than your 2012 awards budget.
Ask yourself would you want to work in a place where you have to continuously churn out scam ads just so the global ecd, regional ecd and CCO can justify their multimilion$ package (and not actually do any ads).
If the answer is no then you should know what to do. No ad agency is perfect but there are other places that treat employees with decency.
All the best for the future James. You’ve been great to work with.
ER, not sure what all the anti-foreigner stuff is about…. You have a global and regional Creative heads who are local and assuming they make the decisions about who the ecds are… their call… have a word to them about the local versus expat choice?
Does this mean Juggi and Richard have to work now?
Proctor is one thing.
Gibson is another, he promoted the wrong people and got rid of red card from what I hear which was the best creative unit from what i hear.
For a guy who’s been here for just a year or so and done not a single noteworthy ad or won any new biz, Proctor sure attracts a lot of press and commentary.
@ ‘Gax’: dont use the sensual prince’s name in vain.
He wouldnt use ”from what I hear’ two times in the space of six words.
They will probably poach Mel Dutoit from TBWA. They need to look after their existing clients. Some people don’t just get what it takes to work in Asia.
