Valerie Cheng named digital creative director of the year at the Singapore Hall of Fame Awards
Valerie Cheng, executive creative director of JWT Singapore, was named Digital Creative Director of the Year, for the second year running, at the Institute of Advertising Singapore’s Hall of Fame awards ceremony on Friday night.
Under Cheng’s leadership, JWT Singapore was named Digital Agency of the Year at the 4A’s Creative Circle Awards, and won numerous other awards for digital work this year, including a Grand Prix in Mobile, along with one Silver and one Bronze in Mobile, at Ad Stars; a Silver in Mobile at Spikes; as well as Best in Digital and Best in Show for the Red Cross Rapid Rescue app at the CCAs.
“Winning the title in both 2011 and 2012 confirms the fact that if you are determined and focused on doing your best, the results will follow. And this applies to the entire team at JWT. I could not have done this on my own,” said Cheng.
Cheng began her career with earth9.com in 1997, and joined XM Asia Pacific in 1999 as an art director. She later moved to Leo Burnett/Arc Worldwide as creative director, then joined Publicis Modern as ECD before re-joining the JWT family in November 2010.
During her career, Cheng has created award-winning work for tier-one global brands, like Hewlett Packard, and has been tapped by the industry to serve as a judge on many regional and local award shows, including Cannes, Spikes, Effies, AdFest and Webbys. She also served as the first-ever female chair of the Creative Circle Awards in 2010, and this year, served as the head of the digital jury this year at the CCAs.
“Valerie’s latest award is very well deserved. She is widely recognised in Singapore as a creative leader who makes digital a seamless part of any campaign. This is the future for our industry,” said Angus Fraser, Managing Director, JWT Singapore.

Who makes the choice in this award show?…is it clients, creatives or some industry respected figureheads?
Some friends in the “background” who made the decisions.
We did. Do you have a problem “confused digital creative”?
She has proven time and time again so if you have any question I suggest you connect the organizers of the hall of fame who will tell you who the judges are.
I didn’t know David Hamilton was still working and taking head shots.
I think they just anyhow give it to the agency CD who win a lot in the digital category at CCA.
Well done.
Singapore digital is about 10 years behind. Nothing new nothing interesting. America sweden and japan lead by miles. In this context, who really cares…
This is a nice award that comes with more responsibility to do great work for the agency that pays your bils. It will be good to see what JWT is known for globally…great work that delivers results for clients in the marketplace. Its fun to do some proactive work that wins some local award. This award should be motivation to win some pitches and hold on to shaky existing clients and improve the standards of daily work… If you succeed the world is yours but if you dont, you can’t blame anyone. Good luck.
