Sudest Dongnam Vietnam names Carl Wyant EP
Following a decade based in Sydney and working with the likes of Animal Logic, Collider, and Prodigy, after teaming with Kiwi director Lance Kelleher at 8Com and Curious Film, veteran producer Carl Wyant has made the move to Saigon to head up production at Sudest in Vietnam.
“It’s exciting to be associated with a company like Sudest”, Wyant said. “They have such a strong reputation in the commercials market as well as a serious pedigree in features, having produced films for Academy Award nominated and Cannes winning director Thanh an Hung, as well as for Australian Philip Noyce with ‘The Quiet American’.
“CEO Henri Phimasset has built a world-class operation in what is an emerging market for the ad world in Vietnam, and the country is just an amazingly energetic place to be. When he called, I jumped at the chance.”
According to Henri, “We were looking for a producer with international experience in both production and visual effects post to take Sudest to the next level in our evolution, and with Carl’s experience having produced for industry icons like Joe Pytka, Marcus Nispel, Gore Verbinski, and any number of top directors and production companies in every corner of the world, we knew we’d found the right person for the role.”
“There may have been a time when the Vietnamese commercials market was a bit of a backwater, even in South East Asia, but the quality of the work and what Sudest is able to deliver in a part of the world where production costs are a fraction of those in the West, as well as those in many other countries in the region, is on par with the best anywhere,” Wyant says.
“There’s also something special in the spirit of the country that has everyone pulling together to create the best results. A strong core group of Vietnamese creatives collaborating with a number of talented expats who’ve flocked to the country makes for a very dynamic creative community. One that I’m very enthusiastic about being a part of.”
