McCann HK rebrands as McCann & Spencer recognising Spencer Wong’s great contribution
McCann Hong Kong has undergone a name change and is now rebranded as McCann & Spencer, effective today. The move reflects the shareholding taken up by McCann Hong Kong’s long time creative leader Spencer Wong.
Wong joined McCann Hong Kong in early 2006 as Executive Creative Director for Greater China, and was soon promoted to Managing Director Hong Kong. With TH Peng’s departure in 2012, Spencer succeeded as the CEO and Chief Creative Officer of McCann Hong Kong. Effective today, Wong will become CEO and Creative Chairman for McCann & Spencer.
Charles Cadell, President, McCann Worldgroup Asia Pacific; “Spencer has been a key driver in transforming the Hong Kong office to be recognised globally for its creative prowess. Spencer’s reputation and connections also lends itself to attracting not only the best talent in Hong Kong, but Asia and beyond.
“Creative leadership across our Network and the quality of delivery is a major focus for our business. As a Network we’re very excited by the direction taking place in Hong Kong.”
Said Spencer Wong on the decision: “Creativity is at the core of what we do as a network for our clients’ business. Creativity has been embedded in McCann since 1912. I’m very proud my name, Spencer, will become part of the agency’s name in Hong Kong, a reinforcement of our commitment that Creativity will remain a priority to our clients and business partners.
“Hong Kong and China’s communication markets are rapidly diversifying. In order to meet this need, we will enhance our capabilities and resources over the coming months to meet our ambition of remaining Hong Kong’s number 1 creative agency. I’m very excited by this re-set in the company.”
Under Wong’s leadership, McCann Hong Kong has become the most creatively awarded agency in Hong Kong, a title it has held proudly since 2007, along with helping China win their first Grand Prix in Cannes in 2009. Award recognition has come to clients such as Coca-Cola, Nike, Wellcome, Café de Coral and HMV.
McCann Hong Kong has been recognized as ‘Agency of the Year Hong Kong’ in 2012 and 2014.
Continued Spencer: “With many client loyalties remaining with the people rather than just the Agencies, making the change to McCann & Spencer gives confidence to prospects and existing clients that we will place the best of Hong Kong’s talent on their business.”

Very nicely done, but there might be one or two other agencies in HK, that would dispute McCann’s entitlement to the title of ‘Agency of the Year’ and most creatively awarded agency in HK since 2007.
Now that’s having an influence. Don’t know the guy but hats off and well played.
Spencer is a great talent and a wonderful person.
Congratulations on this development.
Smart move from McCann.
It ties in a vital asset to the agency’s success in HK and opens up to more accounts out of China.
Maybe the trend will continue – McCann & Prasoon. McCann & Mok.
Then as a lure for big name hires for struggling offices.
McCann & Joji?
McCann & Guan?
McCann & Yang?
I think it’s a language thing. They did win creative AOTY in HK with Campaign, but it was a bronze… and the creative awards – again, how you want to interpret….
Anyway, amazing to think they have a HK person named on the door!
How about Ogilvy & O’Conor?
Actually never mind.
