OMD Hong Kong promotes Gary Wong to MD and appoints Desmond Ko as business director
OMD Hong Kong has made key leadership appointments as a result of the agency’s continued growth. Gary Wong, previously the General Manager for OMD Hong Kong, has been promoted to Managing Director with immediate effect, while Desmond Ko has been appointed as Business Director to lead on key accounts at the agency.
Wong (pictured left) has over 20 years of industry experience, having worked across a diverse portfolio of blue-chip clients in Telecom, Banking, FMCG and Luxury. In fact, he was part of the founding team when OMD Hong Kong was established in 1998. Having been promoted to General Manager of OMD Hong Kong in 2014, Wong has played a key role in the agency’s growth, overseeing the strengthening of key client relationships, expanding the scope of services with existing clients, and playing an active role in driving new business.
Ko (pictured right) brings over 18 years of experience on both the agency and client side, having previously worked for Ptarmigan Media (Asia) Limited, UM Hong Kong and Anheuser-Busch Asia. He now returns to OMD Hong Kong – the agency where he started his media career in 2000 – to deliver best-in-class media strategies and solutions for the agency’s clients.
Deric Wong, CEO of OMD Hong Kong, says: “Over the last two years, Gary has played an integral role in the transformation of OMD, having been responsible for many successes and establishing the agency’s unique positioning in Hong Kong. It gives me great pleasure to announce that he will now take on greater responsibilities as Managing Director for the agency. Additionally, Desmond brings a wealth of marketing communications knowledge and experience from his previous roles, which will enhance our agency’s offering, enabling us to continuously raise the bar of excellence and deliver tangible value to our clients. These appointments fuel our ambition of being the most digitally savvy and future-facing partner for brands in Hong Kong.”
“OMD is the place where industry talent continues to thrive, knowing they have the full support and freedom to exercise their creative abilities in pursuing out-of-the-box solutions and innovative thinking for our clients and partners,” added Stephen Li, CEO of OMD APAC. “Gary and Desmond have already played a significant part in the network’s success story in Hong Kong. It’s absolutely wonderful to see our talent grow from within, leveraging their solid understanding of our agency’s niche positioning and our clients’ evolving needs to now shape the agency’s future journey. I look forward to seeing even more impressive developments come out of Hong Kong as a result.”
