McDonald’s Indonesia launches new Happy Meal menu with an animated film from Director’s Think Tank

Director’s Think Tank and Flock Creative Network Indonesia turned to animation to reveal the new Happy Meal, which features a refreshed menu under 600 calories.

The 60 second spot features a mother and son duo transforming into animated characters who are then transported into the Happy Meal box. Here, they experience a surreal animated world, interacting with the lush ingredients that make up the new Happy Meal menu.

Directed by DTT’s Rajay Singh and Nicholas Lai from Moog Studio, Temukan Kebaikan Terbaru dari Happy Meal is a follow up to the earlier brand film Pilih Kebaikan Terbaru Happy Meal. The animation was created to visualize and bring to life the fantasy Happy Meal world.

“This is the first time we collaborated with Nicholas Lai from Moog Studio for doing the animation of Happy Meals – The Box of Goodness. He transformed the products’ feature spots into the fantasy happy meals’ world and he always brings fresh ideas to the table to push every spot into a magical world. Excellent! Big thanks to Rajay Sigh who helped us to direct this magical story,” said Erwin Santoso, Co-founder and Creative Partner of Flock Creative Network.

“We’re very lucky to have Nicholas Lai and Rajay Singh to handle this project in a very tight deadline. We’re not only satisfied with the result, but also with the process. They’re open with new ideas and they managed to explain the animation pipeline clearly to our client,” added Chandra Suteja, Creative Group Head of Flock Creative Network.

The use of animation allowed the storyline to truly hero the ingredients, with many detailed shots focused on showing the wholesomeness of the milk and corn that are included in the new Happy Meal. When asked to comment on the production process, Lai from Moog Studio jokingly answered, “We just hoped we had more time”.

Singh was also thankful for the close collaboration with Flock Creative Network and the clients. “We are grateful that the team at McDonald’s Indonesia were open to the recommendations on animation styles and treatments. Animation can be a rather lengthy and complicated process so it was great that they had faith in us. We all had the same vision of capturing the magic and innocence of the iconic Happy Meal.”
