Grab says ‘Prepare For Huatever’ in new Chinese New Year film created by Fishermen Integrated Malaysia and directed by Darrel Hyon-Le’
Directors Think Tank director Darrel Hyon-Le’ has recently collaborated with Fishermen Integrated Malaysia on the latest Grab CNY film.
The pandemic closed practically the entire country of Malaysia over 2020 and 2021. Many cultural festivities couldn’t be celebrated including the Chinese New Year. 2022 Chinese New Year was be the first time families were able to visit one another since the lockdown. Families, relatives and friends are expected to turn up at your house for visitations, sometimes unexpectedly throughout the 15-day celebration.
Titled ‘Prepare For Huatever’, Grab wanted to help Malaysians to prepare better this 2022 Chinese New Year as the nation opens its local borders for home traveling through their multi services app platform. The film features a family dramatizing their Chinese New Year preparation for whatever that may come. Led by the head of the household, General Dad, he motivates his family through a Braveheart-like war cry while waiting anxiously for the visitors to attack.
Andrew Tan, ECD, Fishermen Integrated, says: “Festivities commercials in Malaysia are like the commercials during the Super Bowl, everyone is fighting for attention. Instead of the usual storytelling which most advertisers go for, we made a film about getting ready for a revenge celebration due to the fact we haven’t celebrated it since the lockdown 2 years ago. Once again, the entire team behind Directors Think Tank produced a high quality film while still maintaining the simplicity of the idea.”
Tan said from the start, Hyon-Le’ was the right person to direct this film. “The script was simple, the direction was clear but Darrel’s vision of making it more stylized, dramatic, and visually entertaining really brought the script to the next level, which is something he is known for. The post production with Darrel’s guide really made the film visually beautiful.”
Said Hyon-Le’: “The creative at Fishermen Integrated and I worked very closely to ensure the brand film had a healthy dose of quirky humour with the aim of bringing as much joy and laughter to Malaysians as they welcome the Water Tiger Year!”
