Spotlight The Brave: McCann Worldgroup’s Alfred Wee on his career journey and the up-coming Singapore AdMarCom Festival

The Singapore AdMarCom Festival 2024 with be held January 18th. In the lead up to the festival we are spotlighting sone of the ‘Braves’ who have made a significant impact in the Singapore AdMarCom space. First up is McCann Worldgroup’s Alfred Wee. Here he shares his insights in this exclusive interview.
Who are you? – What holds dear to you? Can you share a defining moment or experience in your career that has shaped who you are today?
My name is Alfred Wee, and I am the executive creative director at McCann Worldgroup. I have been involved in the creative industry for over twenty years and staunchly believe in the power of impactful creativity to bring about positive change. Throughout my career, I have been honoured with notable awards such as the EFFIES, international creative, and regional marketing awards. These awards further reinforce my dedication to excellence and innovation.
What keeps you motivated to wake up and go to work everyday?
I am thrilled to go to work every day and excited to find new ways to help brands positively impact people’s lives. Myexperience at the helm of McCann Worldgroup’s Public Sector Practice in Singapore has honed my ability to foster change for the benefit of society. I am passionate about creating constructive solutions that make a meaningful difference.
Why have you been so active in cultivating young budding talents in Singapore? Crowbar, One Show etc.
Supporting young creative talent is crucial for the industry’s future. Many years ago, I contributed my time as an adjunct lecturer at various creative institutions and eventually became an advisory member on the board for universities and institutions. Being able to help run initiatives like The Crowbar Awards with AAMS enabled me to contribute to the growth of the next generation, ensuring a vibrant and innovative creative community.
Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years? Do you think you will still be as active in the industry?
Being actively involved in the field allows me to make meaningful contributions towards progressing the industry, and I believe in staying engaged and mentoring the next generation of professionals. It’s a rewarding experience to share my knowledge and expertise with others.

Throughout my journey, I’ve always been passionate about exploring new ideas, breaking boundaries, and driving freshinitiatives. I believe that fearlessness and innovation are vital ingredients for success, and I always strive to embrace them in everything I do.
Last, What advice would you give to someone starting their career in the AdMarCom field today?
It’s important to keep your curiosity alive and never stop learning, especially in today’s rapidly changing world. To help you grow and succeed, build a network of supportive people and seek out mentors who can guide you along the way. Get involved in events and initiatives that match your interests and passions. Remember that every experience can help you learn and achieve even more in your career, whether a success or a setback.
