UltraSuperNew Singapore signs Elrid Carvalho as Head of Creative + announces multiple new hires

UltraSuperNew Singapore has hired a mix of fresh and experienced talent as it plans to hit the ground running for the start of the new lunar year. The independent creative agency welcomes Elrid Carvalho as new head of creative, along with art directors, a copywriter, and an account director.

As Head of Creative, Carvalho (pictured above right) will be working alongside Managing Director Sarah Emmanuel-Cheong (pictured above left) in a leadership partnership to propel the creative and growth agenda of the agency.

Prior to joining UltraSuperNew (USN), Carvalho served as the Head of Creative at Group East, where he played a key role in building the creative department and launching Singaporean start-up TiNDLE, across Germany and UK.

Carvalho’s experience spans creative agencies Ogilvy, TBWA and JWT in Singapore, where he worked across clients such as Mondelez, Toyota, Changi Airport Group, National Library Board, Airbnb, Singapore Tourism Board, HSBC and KitKat. His work has been awarded at Cannes Lions, The One show, London International Festival, Spikes Asia, CCA Gongs and The Effies.

Carvalho said: “I see UltraSuperNew as a creative agency brimming with potential and itching to show people what it can do. Home to both an art gallery and a creative agency, UltraSuperNew is uniquely poised to think boldly and innovate the art of communications while pushing the boundaries of our creative product. I can’t wait to get stuck in, embrace that beginners mindset, build stronger connections and drive success for our partners with the talented folks I now call colleagues and fellow mischief makers.”

Joining Carvalho in the creative department is Senior Art Director Sharmain Lim, who brings her wild ideas to USN via Ogilvy, TBWA and most recently RAPP. Newly graduated Junior Art Director Javeen Bakshi arrives at her first job in advertising, an award winner with two golds, one silver, one bronze, one finalist position, and one Best of Category title at the Crowbar Awards 2024. Rounding up the creative hires is Justine Schlossmacher who comes on board as a junior copywriter.

Adding experience to the account management end is Associate Account Director Yong En Soon, who comes on board from BLKJ Havas having led the RSAF account. Prior to BLKJ Havas, Yong has worked across FMCG brands at MullenLowe and VaynerMedia as well as banking and education during his time in DDB Tribal.

Emmanuel-Cheong said: “This past year has been one of great change and big challenges for us. Now with all the pieces of the puzzle in place, we’re gearing up for a strong year ahead. Elrid and I have this shared vision of not just building a team at USN; but cultivating a community of dreamers, and creative makers. I’m confident the team we’ve curated will soon be pushing creative boundaries and bringing that sprinkle of USN crazy to Singapore’s advertising landscape – helping our brand partners connect with their audience in authentic and surprising new ways. I couldn’t be more excited for this next chapter at USN.”
