The Association of Accredited Advertising Agents of Malaysia (4As) has announced the call for entries of the 2024 Kancil Awards, with the theme “Make it Happen for Malaysia”.

As Malaysia’s longest running and most prestigious advertising awards competition, the Kancil Awards continues in its journey towards getting Malaysia celebrated and recognised on the world stage.

Kancils 2024 Co-organising chairperson Joyce Gan (pictured right), Partner and Group Client Services Director at Fishermen Integrated, said: “We’re thrilled to broaden the horizons of our awards this year by welcoming not only creative agencies but also a diverse range of creative professionals, including audio houses, content creators, and more. Our goal is to recognize and celebrate creativity in all its forms, showcasing the incredible talent that drives our industry forward.”

“We were also tremendously delighted to see the winner of the Kancils 2023 Sick Six New Directors Challenge Fish Cheng for “Push-Pull” go on to win New Director Lotus Gold at AdFest 2024 in Thailand, and also be shortlisted for the Young Director Awards 2024 in Cannes.”

Kancils 2024 is comprised of the main awards, ancilliary awards including the Young Kancils Challenge sponsored by Tealive, the Kancil Sick Six New Directors Challenge, the Student Kancils X Scooler Awards, and the one-day Kancil Creative Festival.

New additions to Kancils 2024 are Tik Tok Shop as the sponsor of the Commerce Kancils which shine the spotlight on work that applies innovation and creativity to commerce, payment solutions and transactional journeys; a new category Entertainment Kancils which highlights creativity from creators on social, streamers,  gamers, longform or documentary filmmakers, musicians or bands, music studios, or entertainment publishers; Media Prima as a new media partner to provide more exposure and visibility to the Awards and Festival; and a new ‘CMO Can-Chills’ forum for Chief Marketing Officers to exchange ideas and inspire each other.

Kancils 2024 Co-organising chairperson Yee Hui Tsin (pictured left), Chief Executive Officer at TBWA Group Malaysia, said: “Can-Chills brings our CMO friends closer to the Kancils theme this year ‘Make it Happen for Malaysia’, a mingling of CMOs’ and CCOs’ minds, dissecting Cannes’ work, to get us geared towards making Malaysia win on a global level. When our clients are as hungry as us to win, our creative ambition is limitless. It’s our show of gratitude to our clients, that without them we wouldn’t be here doing what we all love to do every day. Winning is a client-agency team sport with the Kancil Awards being the best place to flex our creative muscles and showcase Malaysian pride.”

Speaking of his companies’ partnership with the Kancils, Bryan Loo, Founder and CEO of Loob Holding, said: “Having Bask Bear Coffee be a part of ‘Young Kancils’ in 2023 was an incredibly rewarding experience, allowing us to connect with the next generation of creative talent in Malaysia, witnessing firsthand the passion, innovation, and determination that drives young creatives in our country. The exposure and engagement we received were invaluable, with participants and audiences associating Bask Bear as a young, innovative and creative brand. This year, we aim to repeat the experience with Tealive, and we’re excited to see how the participants push the boundaries of creativity even further.”

Loo added: “At Loob Holding, creativity is essential because it fuels our ability to innovate, differentiate our brands, and stay ahead in a competitive market. It’s what allows us to connect with our customers in meaningful ways, offering them experiences that are not just products but reflections of contemporary culture and delivering future trends and experiences to our consumers.”

Part of the Kancils commitment to industry outreach includes maintaining the prevailing entry fees.

Gan said: “We’re excited to expand the scope of our festival and awards this year, celebrating creativity in all its forms. As a testament to our commitment, we’ve kept our submission prices unchanged, making us one of the most affordable and credible award shows in town.”

The Kancil Creative Festival and award presentations will be held at EX8, Subang Jaya on 22 November 2024. Further details on Kancils 2024 can be found here.
