Oriental Watch Company + Omelette Digital unveil The Strokes of Time at Fashion Walk Causeway Bay
Hong Kong watch retailer Oriental Watch Company is broadening the “Take Your Time” communication platform via the unveiling of “The Strokes of Time” at Fashion Walk Causeway Bay. The experiential activation, created and designed by Omelette Digital, aims to inspire Hongkongers to pause and truly behold the beauty of our surroundings despite living in a city that is synonymous with change.
Taking a closer look at the streets of Hong Kong and the calligraphic gems that grace its urban landscape – every character is a reflection of the aesthetic from a particular era. This initiative endeavours to breathe new life into these old scenes, creating a visual experience that transcends time in the heart of Paterson Street and Fashion Walk.
Omelette Digital collaborated with three local craftsmen, including “Plumber King” Yim Chiu-Tong, Neon Craftsman Wu Chi-Kai and Minibus Sign Maker Mak Kam-sang. Under the theme “The Strokes of Time”, each craftsman has created a unique art piece that symbolizes different hallmarks of Hong Kong’s local visual culture. The centrepiece – a giant “Words Of Reminder” installation was also put in place, allowing pedestrians to take a breather in the vast sea of Chinese characters that are crafted with font types commonly seen in Hong Kong.
With over 60 years of heritage, Oriental Watch Company has been a close witness of the evolution of this city.
“This experiential activation is another illustration of our dedication to encourage Hongkongers to “TAKE YOUR TIME”. As we put aside our pursuit of speed, moments of simple joy are all within reach,” said Anthony Tsang, Head of Marketing & Digital (Greater China Region), Oriental Watch Company.
“This visual experience is a collective creation put together by multiple local calligraphers & craftsmen. We hope Hongkongers and tourists who are passing by Causeway Bay can take a breather to appreciate the aesthetics of our local calligraphic gems,” said Matt Kwok, Creative Director of Omelette Digital.
“This project is yet another love letter to the city we call home. In a world that is obsessed with speed and change, we wish to slow city dwellers down with an experience that blends nostalgia and newfound vitality,” said Andrea Choi, Creative Director of Omelette Digital.
“The Strokes of Time” activation is open to public until 10 November, 2024. This is a teaser activation of Oriental Watch Company’s new creative platform “Take Your Time with The Timekeepers”, which celebrates the group of “Timekeepers” who have mastered the art of long-term devotion, embodying the profound power of time and dedicating oneself to a single endeavour in a city that races ahead at 1.5 times the usual pace.
