McDonald’s Australia adds Wieden+Kennedy to agency roster, joining DDB, OMD, Akcelo + Digitas

McDonald’s Australia has confirmed that US agency Wieden+Kennedy has been added to its roster as an additional creative agency partner.

A spokesperson from McDonald’s says: “The appointment sees the highly successful creative company join our award-winning agency village, which aims to continue to deliver compelling and successful campaigns to drive our brand and business forward.

“We were incredibly impressed by W&K’s understanding of our fans and creative approach and we are excited to work with them, alongside our existing agency partners – DDB, OMD, Akcelo and Digitas – in 2025.

“We would like to acknowledge and thank the other agencies who participated in the process.”

In October last year, McDonald’s Australia announced it was seeking an additional creative agency partner, which would not effect it’s long-established partnership with DDB Australia. At the time McDonald’s said it would search among its existing list of global agency partners including Leo in the UK, Wieden+Kennedy and Droga5 in the US, TBWA in Europe and Asia and DDB in New Zealand.

Campaign Brief understands that Wieden+Kennedy will establish a Sydney outpost to service the McDonald’s business. While the setup is still in its early stages, the agency plans to begin with a small core team on the ground, which will grow as needed to support their work.

This initial team will be made up of talent from both W+K’s global network and the local market, with several hires already made in Australia. The agency is actively building its foundation and will continue to scale as the requirements of the McDonald’s account evolve.

Says a spokesperson from Wieden+Kennedy: “After working with this brand for the past 5+ years, it’s no secret that our love for McDonald’s runs deep. We’re excited to expand this relationship to Australia, and we look forward to bringing to life unique fan truths that celebrate what makes Macca’s so special to people.”
