Thasorn Boonyanate to take up the Chief Creative Officer role at Ogilvy Thailand
Updated to include official quotes: After months of speculation the Thailand Ad Industry’s worst kept secret has come to fruition with Thasorn Boonyanate today taking up the Chief Creative Officer role at Ogilvy Thailand.
Boonyanate resigned from his role as CCO of BBDO Bangkok in November last year and it’s been common knowledge since then that he was moving to Ogilvy. He is replacing Thai creative legend Gumpon Laksanajinda who is stepping back from the industry after a long and extremely decorated career at Ogilvy Thailand. Laksanajinda (pictured bottom oic) was the #1 most awarded creative in Asia the 2024 Campaign Brief Asia Creative Rankings and Ogilvy Thailand was the #1 most awarded agency overall in Asia in the 2023 Campaign Brief Asia Creative Rankings.
In his new role, Boonyanate will be responsible for spearheading the agency’s creative output, nurturing talent, and ensuring Ogilvy remains at the forefront of innovative and effective brand-building solutions.
This appointment follows the decision of Gumpon Laksanajinda to step down from his day-to-day operational role as CCO after an exceptional 25-year tenure with Ogilvy. Under Laksanajinda’s visionary leadership, Ogilvy Thailand significantly elevated its creative reputation, delivering groundbreaking campaigns that earned widespread recognition both locally and internationally.
“We are incredibly excited to welcome Pete Thasorn Boonyanate to lead our creative charge,” said Jiravara Virayavardhana, Chief Executive Officer, Ogilvy Thailand (pictured below).
“Pete’s fresh perspective, dynamic leadership, and unwavering commitment to pushing creative boundaries perfectly align with Ogilvy’s ambition for the future. He has a profound understanding of modern marketing and the ability to inspire teams to craft impactful work that resonates deeply with consumers.”
Virayavardhana added, “We extend our deepest gratitude to Gumpon Laksanajinda for his extraordinary 25 years of dedicated service. His creative passion and instrumental role in shaping Ogilvy’s legacy have set an incredibly high bar for excellence, driving us to be a top player not just in Thailand, but across Asia Pacific. We wish him the very best in his new chapter.”
Reed Collins, Chief Creative Officer, Ogilvy Asia Pacific, commented, “A heartfelt ‘Khob khun krub’ to Gumpon, building a truly special creative legacy at Ogilvy and shaping the unique spirit of Thai advertising! And to Pete, a massive, enthusiastic welcome to the team! We can’t wait to see you build on that brilliant foundation and lead us into an even more exciting creative future.”
