Wondrlab and VerSe launch ‘The Right Sign’ to normalize Indian sign language through rap

Wondrlab, in collaboration with VerSe Innovation, Signing Hands Foundation, and Lucifer Music, has launched The Right Sign – a bold cultural movement aiming to normalize Indian Sign Language (ISL) by embedding it into India’s rap scene. The campaign flips the script on gang signs, replacing them with real, meaningful ISL gestures in rap videos.
Top rappers like Indeep Bakshi, V-Town Chronicles, Enkore, and Y-ASH 1HUNNED have reimagined their performances in sign language, using music as a bridge to promote inclusion and awareness.
The initiative goes beyond just music videos. It rolled out cyphers across India, took ISL into classrooms, and introduced the next generation to sign language as part of their everyday lives. At its core is a 40-phrase ISL tutorial, designed to help anyone start communicating with the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.
“This idea came from a simple insight—youngsters copy gang signs from rap videos without knowing what they mean. Why not replace those with signs that truly communicate?” said Amit Akali, Co-founder & CCO at Wondrlab. “This is more than a campaign—it’s a cultural correction.”
