Directors Think Tank’s Sling Ng makes long-form directorial debut with new Astro Originals’ Generasi: Perfect 10 TV series

Drama. Rivalry. Obsession. Welcome to the world of Generasi Perfect 10, where a group of young dreamers discover that things may not be as “perfect” as they seem.

Astro Originals, Malaysia’s Premium Channel on Astro, has a new hit on its hands with Generasi: Perfect 10, a fresh drama that has already cracked Astro One and Astro Sooka’s Top Ten in under a week, since its premiere on 19 September. At the heart of it is a story about women, told by women—led by first-time long-form director Sling Ng of Directors Think Tank.

Sling marks a milestone with her move to episodic drama: “I am extremely grateful and humbled for this journey and all the amazing support. To be able to stretch from commercials to a full-length series is a dream come true.”

The series follows Ezie (Arena Wan), a spirited teenager stepping into the high-pressure world of gymnastics. Alongside a cast that includes established stars Sharifah Sakinah, Sherie Merlis, and Sofia Jane, as well as rising talents such as Arabella Ellen, the show delves into themes of resilience, identity, and the struggle to stand tall in the face of adversity. Malaysian Gymnastics Icon Farah Ann also served as a consultant on the show for authenticity.

Astro’s Raja Jastina Raja Arshad, Head of Astro Shaw & Astro Originals, said the series reflects the broadcaster’s focus on authentic stories.

“Generasi: Perfect 10 touches on humanitarian and social themes while showcasing the spirit of Malaysian athletes. It’s a series about grit, resilience, and self-discovery that we hope will resonate with audiences. It also has drama, heart, and it’s a lot of fun, said Arshad.”

Showrunner and creator Nas Addina, who steered the writers’ room, knew from the beginning that a woman director was essential. As a showrunner, she knew from the beginning that a woman would direct the series, and knowing Sling from her work in commercials and her strength in telling compelling stories, there was every confidence that Sling would bring an assured voice to the series.

“Telling longer stories, where we can really expand on the characters and the stories, has always been an ambition, and working with such a talented cast and crew, and being involved throughout the process has had its challenging moments, but really worth it,” said Sling.

Generasi: Perfect 10 runs for eight episodes, with new episodes premiering weekly across Astro platforms, including Astro Ria, Astro Citra, On Demand, and Sooka. With its early success, it’s clear that the series has struck a chord with viewers, signalling a new chapter for Sling Ng and Directors Think Tank as they move further into the world of premium drama.
