Fin Design + Effects Asia appoints Fabian Sommer to spearhead Southeast Asia expansion and AI-integrated VFX direction

Fin Design + Effects Asia, the award-winning, leading independent boutique visual effects studio, has appointed Fabian Sommer as Business Development / Executive Producer across the Southeast Asia region.

In this strategic role, Sommer will accelerate Fin’s commercial footprint across key Southeast Asian markets, bringing the studio’s award-winning VFX capabilities to brands, agencies, and production networks. Central to his mandate is advancing the integration of artificial intelligence into Fin’s pipeline: an evolution conceptualised, designed, and executed under the direct oversight of the studio’s senior VFX artists.

Sommer joins Fin with deep experience in premium advertising and moving-image production across Asia, having held senior leadership roles with global production networks and agencies including Hogarth and Ogilvy. His track record managing high-level international accounts, cross-border agency relationships, and complex delivery frameworks positions him to lead Fin’s next phase of regional growth.

“The Asian advertising terrain is evolving at breakneck speed, demanding a perfect synthesis of technological disruption and artistic mastery,” said Emma Daines, Founder and Group Managing Director of Fin Design + Effects. “Fabian brings strong commercial insight across Southeast Asia and a clear vision for how emerging technology can elevate, not replace, the work of exceptional artists. With him on board, we are ensuring that Fin’s boutique quality remains our signature as we expand.”

Sommer said: “Fin has spent more than two decades building an untarnished reputation as a premium creative benchmark in VFX. The opportunity to champion their artistry across Southeast Asia, while steering an absolute frontier in artist-led AI worflows, is exactly the kind of challenge that drives me. Our focus is clear: we aren’t replacing craft with algorithms. We are equipping the region’s best VFX talent with bespoke AI tools to deliver world-class execution with greater precision and efficiency.”

Sommer’s appointment comes as Fin solidifies its independent Asian network, optimizing its offices in Shanghai and Singapore to serve as focused and agile hubs for premium brand campaigns.
