Telstra and Qantas launch Olympic commercials featuring music from two Australian rock stars
Australia: Two of Australia’s biggest advertisers, Telstra and Qantas, have used the music of two of the country’s leading musicians to create commercials to promote their London 2012 Olympic sponsorships.
DDB Group Sydney have recruited the voices of Australia to re-create the nation’s unofficial sporting anthem, Down Under. Led by Men At Work front man and principal songwriter, Colin Hay, an A Cappella version of the track launched during the TV broadcast of the Opening Ceremony of the Games.
The Qantas Olympic commercial, continued the ‘You’re the reason we fly’ theme launched by Publicis Mojo, Sydney last week.
The spot, featuring music by Silverchair lead singer Daniel Johns, was directed by The Glue Society’s Gary Freedman via Revolver.

Not exactly an original technique, but at least it’s watchable. Quantas isn’t. What were Quantas thinking when they approved these spots?
So bronze medal to Telstra, upper management of Quantas all disqualified for doping, because they must have been higher than a 747 when they approved that concept.
