James Procter moves from Singapore to Hong Kong to join TBWA as executive creative director
Former Ogilvy Singapore ECD James Procter is to move to Hong Kong to join TBWA in the same position. He replaces Mark Ringer, who’s resignation to move to London was announced a two weeks ago.
Procter started his career at Clemenger BBDO in his native Australia and went on to become ECD at GPY&R Sydney, Y&R Singapore and for the past 12 months at O&M Singapore.
Commenting on the appointment, Joanne Lao, Managing Director TBWA\Hong Kong, described Procter’s role as key in propelling the agency forward, building on its strong foundation of true integration with digital embedded at the core. “Our ambition is to be a top creative company, not just in Hong Kong, but across the region. We’re thrilled to have James join us in enhancing our creative capabilities.”
Ed Choe, Co-President and Head of Creative for Greater China, added, “TBWA\ Hong Kong is a young and dynamic office with a culture that thrives off innovation. We are excited to welcome James and look forward to leveraging his creative talent and energy in both Hong Kong, and Greater China.”
“TBWA has an amazing reputation for creative culture. Joanne, Ed and all the people I’ve met so far reinforce that,” said Procter. “We are in the midst of one of the most exciting times for both the region and our industry. I can’t wait to get started and to help our clients do the kind of work that people love.”
Procter has worked with brands such as AXA, adidas, Caltex, Virgin Atlantic, Pepsi, OCBC, Mars, Starburst and WWF. His work has won recognition at many international and local award shows including D&AD, Cannes Lions, The Clio Awards, Spikes Asia, One Show, The Effies and New York Festivals to name a few.

Great guy. Great agency. Double happiness.
I worked with him in Australia and he’s a talent. Really smart move from TBWA.
HaHaHa, everybody keeps saying that nothing is being posted here all day on this one. Constructive comments are still welcome right? Just let us say that we are all very happy he is in Hong Kong and we will leave it at that.
Three agencies in three years? Asia has not been kind. Hopefully third time’s a charm. Good luck.
Sg is a dream compared to HK, and he didn’t fare too well in the tiny island nation. Alienated his dept at Y&R in his first week, then was at Ogilvy for a nanosecond and didn’t have much to show from either agency.
I worked with him once. I thought he was a planner.
Welcome James.
Smart CDs often have to be planners. Because god knows what planners really do besides download big files from the internet and refuse to budge from their opinions.
Hong Kong is the creative wasteland where Brits and Aussies go when they’ve been naughty.
Let’s give some credit here to Proctor.
Yes much credit is due…it is not easy to land a job when hounded by so many haters.
He is a good guy. Made some mistakes at Y&R and Ogilvy. Back is struggling still obviously, but at least Proctor was there for a while to help out with the business. So many changes are hard to keep up with at that place. What happened to Richie Copping?
I’m a good guy. Made some mistakes. But i’m a good guy.
I heard that we had to use our money from the advertising/one bonus pool to cover the Cannes entry loss. Do other agencies have this problem too? should be a good discussion because we don’t understand how one can run an agency like this. The creative just signed away the money and came back with only two bronze lions from what they shows us that day so I really cannot understand one. So many uniever creatives on this creative work for cannes that wasn’t unilever. Proctor was good here but now he had to go to HK? is the award games worth wasting money that we need for good people like James?
He would have made a super suit. He can sell anything.
After all he got three agencies to buy ‘his book’ in short order and got ECD gigs in top agencies.
