LongXi winners.jpgAfter 3-days of battling and sleepless nights, the 2013 LongXi NOVA Grand Final Competition came to its completion at the Shanghai International Studies University, College of Media and Communication in Songjiang, Shanghai last weekend. Tracy Jheng and Ethan Chan from McCann Taiwan took first place and the team from Saatchi & Saatchi Hong Kong of Kenneth Foo and Adeline Siow took second place in the 17-team competition. These 2 teams will be sent on a study tour of international advertising festivals with the compliments of hdtMEDIA.

The third, fourth and fifth places went to Yilun Liu and Yuwen Tang of E-link Guangzhou, Freddie Du and Mary Tso of Wu’s Advertising Taiwan and Mio Pang and Kai Fung Chan from Hong Kong. Pang and Chan won the entry ticket to the NOVA Grand Final when they were with DraftFCB Hong Kong during the area competition. However as DraftFCB HK  closed down, they paid for themselves to take part in the Grand Final competition.

The LongXi NOVA Competition is one of the most unique creative competitions in the region. The Greater China region was divided into 6 sub-regions including Hong Kong, Taiwan, East China (Shanghai), South China (Guangzhou), North China (Beijing) and Southwest China (Chongqing). In each region agency teams from advertising, digital, PR, production, media and event clients were invited to enter the competition. There are two members in each team and they both must be under 30 years old. They can be a combination of copy writer and art director, account plus planning and or art director plus planning. It’s a 3-day, 2 rounds of presentation competition. In each round of presentations, the teams have less than 24 hours to come up with a creative idea to present to the panel of judges. The panel of judges are from the top creative elites in the region.

The LongXi NOVA Competition is consistent throughout with the ‘cross-over’ brief exercise with 2 brands assigned to each team. In this year’s Grand Final, MTee (Meters Bonwe), Okamoto (condom), Dulux (paint) and Ovaltine (health drink) were provided for the cross-over brief.

The 2013 LongXi NOVA Grand Final Competition panel of judges included Amber Liu, Jury President, Amber Communication; Miranda Shing, Creative Partner, The Right Side HK; John Yang, ECD, Bremen Digital Taiwan; Hwee Chong Chan, CD, Grey Beijing; Liu Yiping, Creative Partner, Z+; Professor Tang Le, Fudan University; Kevin Wang, ECD, VML im2.0; Aaron Zhang, Managing Director, Arkr Group; Albert Lin, Creative Consultant; and Professor Gu Mingyi, Shanghai International Studies University.
