Director Jon Gwyther teams with Seven Sunday Films + Saatchi & Saatchi Indonesia to produce a nervous tvc for the new Toyota Avanza
Director Jon Gwyther continues his run of excellent work with Seven Sunday Films via a new campaign for Toyota Avanza. The film was produced for Saatchi & Saatchi Indonesia, and features an amusing look at how our hero’s very twitchy flash of prescience immediately before a series of potentially stressful events causes him to turn tail and run, lest his vision comes true. The consequences of each event are as exaggerated as the hero’s twitch, and continue until he sets his sights on the Avanza, something he finally does not have to worry about. The film is based around the idea that there’s a lot to worry about in life, but the Avanza is one thing that will make you feel at ease.
The film was shot over 2 days in Jakarta, and features some stunning set design and location dressing to create the elaborate flash forward moments in the film, including a visually striking “Shoe Jail”.
Gwyther was also director of photography for the project, and from his vantage point next to the camera was able to skillfully direct the talent into a comedic performance of subtlety and depth.
Gwyther said of the production: “The Toyota Avanza project was a great one to work on and something very different for me. The key to the job was the subtlety of the performance, the Seven Sundays crew really had to search far and wide for the perfect talent. It was a pleasure to be involved with this project, it was great to work with an agency that were hands on and really hard working and as always it was great to work with my crew who would not give in until everything was just perfect.”
“We collaborated closely with Seven Sundays on this tricky film,” said Alex Tagaroulias, ECD at Saatchi & Saatchi. “The idea required great casting and a director and crew that really understood performance and the subtleties to make this idea work. The end product speaks for itself making the client and Saatchi extremely happy. And just as importantly, we had a really fun time making the spot.”
