O&M Hong Kong and Colenso BBDO Auckland take out Grand Prix awards at Ad Stars
A campaign of three viral films for Matchbox toy cars and a tvc for Alzhimers have taken out the two top awards at the Ad Stars 2009 Busan International Advertising Festival. Part of the Grand Prix prize is US$10,000 cash to each of the winners.
O&M Hong Kong’s Matchbox campaign featured footage of high speed action with a child creating the sound effects of the racing cars. Campaign Brief Asia can only source one of the spots from the campaign which you can view here:

nice pick up gav. what you going to do with the money?
10 Grand for this Matchbox tvc.
Now obviously this was a fairly good show going on Campaign Brief’s writing. But what were the judges thinking giving the grand prize to this ad.
How can you vote this for best in show.
No arguement with the other grand prize, but Matchbox? Come on. We all know what this ad is. Are the judges the only ones that cant see it? Where was the voice of reason on the panel. This Matchbox ad will get nothing at Cannes next year.
Am I wrong?
I like the Matchbox film. Simple and clever. I think maybe the film section was not too strong in this competition.
I will send my work next year.
9.43, I don’t understand your arguement…
Matchbox a grand prix?????? PLEASE!!
I like both campaigns. Congrats
It’s a nice ad. It’s insightful and isn’t that what Matchbox is all about?
I don’t think it’s that bad. Maybe it doesn’t deserve the Grand Prix.
But you weren’t the judging, right?
Why don’t you give us your names so that the organizer can invite you to be judges?
But then again you probably haven’t won any awards.
Good stuff gavin. Cute spot. Lunch on you then!
