Greeenpeace, more war horror stories, hot wheels-(yes-we get it, they’re small!), stouts in bottles -(you mean they weren’t before?), talking books, stationary, model kits and the other usual suspects.
Is this 2014 or 2004?
Don’t get me wrong-they are all pretty nicely crafted ads for messages that really don’t need any advertising.
Shouldn’t we as an industry set our sights a little higher?
Some years ago, One Show took a big stand against scam (and derivatves thereof) to big applause from everyone….they were the ones who would not tolerate it etc etc, there will be bannings etc etc….
So what happened?
Reality did bite and their entries dropped 50%. After a year they dropped their big stand and now entries are back up to normal. Scams pay the bills.
I was in the room with the ECD of a big Shanghai agency that year. One Show rang him personally to ask if he had any more work to enter. The agency had only entered about 2 pieces, rather than the usual 15 or 20. They damn near begged for more entries. I’m sure he was not the only one they called.
I’m an ECD in Shanghai I’ve judged the One Show, those who had judged there would know that it is 100% untrue that they would scoop this low. The “other” festival though, is more likely that they would beg for more entries, all of you know which I’m referring to.
But of all the shows, One Show has the least scams.
Thanks to Ogilvy, Lowe and Publicis, it still holds the title of scam city of the world. The work is half as good sadly, and if you look at the clients listed in Ogilvy’s case, they are scrapping the bottom with no real client entries. Sure Lowe has some Unilever names written down as the client, but if you look at this work it is obvious it ran nowhere. Just more bullshit medals for the usual losers pretending their clever by entering along side the real work from the rest of the world. Does this ever get old lads?

You realise you’ve commented in a thread that’s two years old, right?
