In collaboration with local indie band, The Venopian Solitude, KFC Malaysia has turned your favourite finger lickin’ good food into musical instruments in their new Hari Raya song. The song, “Raya Selamba” was composed with the intention of reminding everyone to enjoy a carefree celebration.

Hari Raya is the most celebrated festive in Malaysia. And with big celebrations, come big expectations. We fret over cooking, cleaning, what to wear, how to behave, who to visit – the list goes on. All these things often distract us from the simple joys of the occasion.

Since people usually relax and let loose when there’s food and music, KFC together with creative agency, Naga DDB Tribal Malaysia, thought it would be fitting to use food as music – literally. Using a circuit board, KFC food was connected to a computer program, which wired them to make sounds.

“Instead of doing a typical festive film where the product is just a signoff at the end, this year we wanted the product to be central to the idea,” explain Creative Directors, Suryadipura Salleh and Jeremy Yeoh. “When the team discovered a simple tech solution that would allow us to turn food into notes, we thought it would be awesome to create a Raya song that’s finger lickin’ good. Next, we needed to find a local band with an original sound, and The Venopian Solitude was the perfect choice,” they added.

3 days after launch, the video went viral. Without paid media, the video caught the attention of both local and regional news. See several links here – Mashable, Malay Mail, Juice, MSN, Yahoo.
