F5 Shanghai releases moving film to highlight Baidu’s deaf-mute learning tech

A boy practices sign language every day. To the mirror. To his pet dog. To his parents. What is his real intention? The twist comes in the end where he reveals to us the person he wants to communicate with.

Created by F5 Shanghai with collaboration from China’s leading tech company, Baidu, the film features Baidu’s newest offering – an app that translates text into sign language. Now still in a limited-release stage, the app uses AI technology to translate text into sign language and then AR to help deaf-mute children understand these stories immediately.

Currently, the app is able to ‘translate’ hundreds of children’s books, helping some of the 2 million deaf-mute children in China to enjoy these stories.

“The technology itself is cold so the film should be warm. At the end of the day, all inventions must improve our quality of living. Baidu’s sign language translation app is so smart that it drives the creative team to come up with a smart idea to make it viral. The film received millions of likes in the Chinese social media, and that makes us happy.”, said Adams Fan, Chief Creative Officer of F5 Shanghai.
