Being at home during the MCO should not limit the pursuit for creative inspiration says Director’s Think Tank

Director’s Think Tank have been busy adjusting to the new norms of planning, producing and shooting films from home while under the Malaysia movement control order (MCO).

In addition to the day-to-day production projects, DTT has also been focusing on internal creative initiatives to motivate and inspire its team to continue the pursuit of creative filmmaking while at home. DTT have released a series of fun, bite-sized video content showing life under the MCO. All shot remotely from home by the individual team members, the films cover everything from monotonous routines, finding new hobbies and ways to entertain oneself, self-reflection, and humourous takes on daily chores.

The project initially started as an internal challenge to everyone internally from its film directors, producers, interns, to admin support staff. Some of the videos made by Shin Murota, Zaim Rosli, Hyrul Anuar, Aiman Aliff, and Intam Sham available on its Instagram page.

“We wanted to do something fun and lighthearted to boost everyone’s morale. Being stuck at home does not put a stop to creativity. In fact, it should inspire greater creative thinking to shoot a well-told film with a limited equipment, locations, and talents,” said DTT’s Co-Founder and Director Rajay Singh.

Rajay continued, ““Even though we are apart physically, it’s great that we have these activities to bring us together. We are really happy with the quality of the submissions and glad that we can share this to the wider audience as entertainment.”

Intan Sham, Executive Producer at DTT, said jokingly, “See even producers can shoot films ok? We’re constantly brainstorming new ways to bring the team closer together. We’ve even started a weekly Zoom buka puasa session since we miss our catch-ups over meals.”
