Using the one thing you can find everywhere in Saigon, motorbikes, UNICEF and Happiness Saigon created a way to get people involved, and aware of their litter. By asking people to literally transform their bike into a trash can for public use.

The initiative is quite simple. Providing cheap, biodegradable bags that people can insert into the existing bins of their scooters, to be used for trash collection, effectively placing trash bins on every street in the city.

The bag when full can then be deposited at a number of geo-mapped public trash bins around the city. Providing an accessible way for people in Saigon to take matters into their own hands, and take litter off the streets.

The program has already successfully launched at a number of universities in Saigon, with several orders already distributed. And has received eager reactions from young adults who want to do their part to keep their country beautiful for the next generation. Several local restaurants in Saigon have also picked up the bins to distribute from their shops for takeaway orders. With plans to soon distribute the Motobins through bike repair shops, garages, and even food delivery services.

The Motobin is of course a temporary solution to the issue, intended to get people in the habit of being conscious of their litter.

UNICEF and Happiness Saigon (creative partner) said:“We’ve seen countless littering campaigns without any change, so we know that a pure awareness campaign won’t do. We created the motothung movement not only as a way to educate but also a tool to make everyone part of the solution.”
