Terence Leong joins AKQA Japan as Tokyo Executive Creative Director

AKQA has today announced the appointment of Terence Leong as Executive Creative Director for AKQA Japan.

In his new role, Leong is responsible for translating AKQA’s global creative vision in collaboration with local clients for the Japanese market. Leong previously held the position of Executive Creative Director at R/GA Shanghai.

As a Commando Intelligence Officer turned Creative, Leong brings a unique perspective with extensive experience in not only observing and understanding people around him, but also leading a team to achieve, and surpass their personal goals.

Leong said: I feel humbled, honored and extremely excited about joining AKQA, and championing a studio of extremely talented individuals. I truly believe we have everything we need to create amazing meaningful work that has the ability to truly impact culture. I can’t wait to show Japan and the world how AKQA uses art, science and technology to help both brands in Japan and beyond with future-proofing themselves.

Leong brings with him considerable experience across the APAC region, having worked for the likes of Wieden + Kennedy, and R/GA, collaborating with clients such as Nike, Google and Sony.

Peter Lund, Global Chief Creative Officer said: “We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Terence into the AKQA family. After our very first interaction we knew that Terence was a match; He brings with him extensive experience across the entire region. He embodies the curiosity, sky-high ambitions and natural thought leadership required to further propel the AKQA Tokyo studio into the future”

This appointment comes at an exciting time for AKQA as the company recently announced its formalised partnership with Grey Group, creating the AKQA Group. Together with the highly regarded Masanori Tagaya, ECD of GREY Tokyo, Terence’s addition to the team creates the most exciting emerging creative partnership in the region, bringing a diverse perspective that unites native Japanese and international mindsets.

The appointment is effective January 5th, 2021.
