The 2021 Hong Kong Kam Fan Awards is in its final stage of accepting entries. HK4As, the organizer have announced the jury president and panel chairs.
Helming all panels is Jury President Mihnea Gheorghiu, Chief Creative Officer, Publics Italy & Le Pub Amsterdam. Gheorghiu will personally chair the Creative & Digital Panel composed of award-winning creatives from different markets and countries.
Gheorghiu got into advertising when he was 19 in Bucharest, Romania. In the years that followed, he worked in Hamburg, Paris, London, Madrid, Toronto, New York and Amsterdam. The work Gheorghiu created and directed over the years has won 50 Cannes Lions, amongst other hundreds of awards.
As the jury president, Gheorghiu is looking for work that makes one jealous.
Gheorghiu said: “Good work is nice. For those of us who make it, it gives us a reason to wake up in the morning and be excited throughout the day. Good work is usually 5-10% of all the advertising out there. And then there’s the amazing work. Brilliance dressed in out-of-this world craft. When you can feel the battles everyone had to go through, over and over, just to bring that to life. That’s usually the 0.1% of all work. That’s the work that makes us jealous. That first makes us angry, but then it inspires us to do better next year. That’s the work that helps shape the future of the industry. And that’s the work we’ll spot, discuss and in the end, award. Can’t wait to do that together.”
Ray Wong, the respected advertising professional will chair the Media Panel composed of agency professionals and brand marketers. Wong has over 30 years of media experience spanning across the Omnicom Group. He had been instrumental in the launches of OMD HK and PHD in Hong Kong in 1998 and 2006 respectively, winning over 300 accolades including 16 ‘Media Agency of the Year’ titles. Wong is currently the Senior Consultant at The Gusto Labs.
Representing Hong Kong on the Creative and Digital Panel is Nick Lim, Founder and Director of Hellonick. Lim is no stranger to the 4As agencies. He started as an advertising creative in the 90s’ and switched to a film director in 2015. Throughout the years, Lim has bagged more than 600 awards including the Cannes Grand Prix, Spikes Asia Grand Prix, Grand Effie and Grand Kam Fan. As a native Hongkonger, Lim will chair the Hong Kong Roots Panel. Inaugurated in the 2019 Kam Fan Awards, Hong Kong Roots is a specific category calling for work that demonstrates the uniqueness and excellence of creativity with strong relevancy to local insight, culture or behaviour. Lim will be joined by a panel of creatives across multiple disciplinaries.
