Matt Eastwood exits the global chief creative officer role at McCann Health
Campaign Brief Asia hears that Matt Eastwood has left his New York based role as global chief creative officer at McCann Health.
Formerly worldwide chief creative officer of J. Walter Thompson, Eastwood (pictured above) joined the network in January 2019 and has overseen a vastly improved and hugely successful creative performance at McCann Health.
At Cannes Lions 2020/21 McCann Health won the PR Grand Prix plus 17 Lions with a record four of their agencies ranked in the Top 10 Healthcare agencies worldwide. The previous year at Cannes (2019) saw the Network of the Year, Agency of the Year (Shanghai) and the Pharma Grand Prix come their way.
At the 2021 One Show McCann Health New York won a Grand Prix and was named Health Agency of the Year. McCann Health New York then repeated this performance at Clio Health 2021.
The London International Awards saw a dominant performance for the network winning the Global Network of the Year Award and Agency of the Year Award (New York). In the Regional LIA Awards, McCann Health London was named European Agency of the Year, the Dubai agency won Middle East Agency of the Year, with New York also named North American Agency of the Year.
McCann Health also pulled off a coup at the global 2021 Creative Floor Healthcare Awards winning the Network of the Year and Agency of the Year gongs – This was the first time ever that a network had taken home both awards.
At time of writing Eastwood couldn’t be contacted for comment.
Eastwood’s career kicked off in Australia before moves to the UK and US. He was a founding partner of M&C Saatchi in Australia before he went on to join DDB Australia as national creative director and vice chairman. In 2010 he moved to DDB New York as chief creative officer. And in AdAge’s 2013 Award’s Report, he was listed as the 5th most awarded chief creative officer worldwide.
In 2016, Eastwood led J. Walter Thompson to a historic year at Cannes, winning a total of 80 Lions. During his career, he has won numerous accolades and honors including Campaign Brief Australian Agency of the Year, Clio Health Network of the Year, Australian Creative Hotshop, Adnews Australian Agency of the Year, Creativity’s Agency to Watch, B&T Agency of the Year, Spikes Network of the Year, and Campaign magazine Network of the Year.

Matt is a true leader and champion of creativity. In my time at JWT he was always there on email or phone to support my ecd. And when he left JWT we were all shaking out heads. JWT went backwards. Good luck on next step Matt.
Matt is an amazing person, an amazing talent and more importantly which few leaders have, is time for anyone no matter what level you are.
Matt’s a great bloke, but McCann Health was already doing brilliantly before he arrived under the old CCO who was wrongfully removed.
One of the industry’s best talents. I have a feeling his next gig will surely be outside a traditional agency unless they innovate and become more relevant. A survey I did with hundreds of top CMO’s said the best talent isn’t in traditional agencies any more. In-House agencies are another story, and need the likes of Matt AND can access more of him for a fraction of the cost now. Laying my bet on the table.
Matt is a true champion for creativity. He was a constant source of inspiration to his teams. He is also a kind human being. I have no doubt that whatever is next will beat his already proven best.
