Reel Factory’s AI Revolution continues with the signing of The Truesdell Brothers

Reel Factory in New Zealand is welcoming the innovative Truesdell Brothers to its director roster. Hailing from New York, the dynamic duo is renowned for merging traditional filmmaking with cutting-edge digital techniques to create immersive cinematic experiences using powerful tools like Unreal Engine, Houdini, Nuke, and Gen-AI.
Eager to stay atop emerging tech, the Tim and Will Truesdell are constantly seeking breakthroughs, tracking down experts in the field, and learning through hands-on trial and error.
Will Truesdell explains: “A lot of people are excited about AI/VFX because they make things faster and cheaper. To us, fast and cheap is a quick race to the bottom. What we are excited about is how these tools can do something that wasn’t possible before. Can it tell a story in a new way? Or reflect a new side of humanity.”
Their complementary strengths further distinguish their approach. Tim has a deep respect for traditional filmmaking while always exploring new technological avenues. Will, with his background in editing and post-production, is a master at refining stories, ensuring every scene resonates with emotional depth.

The Truesdell Brothers are incorporating new tech with traditional filmmaking in a way I haven’t seen anyone else do. They may be American but they have a real Kiwi number eight wire approach to filmmaking and the latest AI tech – if they don’t know how to do something, they, like us, figure it out and make it happen.”
Watkins said the exciting partnership is a clear step forward for the company: “We continue pushing the boundaries of storytelling – proving that innovation and tradition can unite to create larger-than-life narratives that redefine the art of filmmaking.”
