VIM, IMPACT BBDO + BBDO Pakistan serve up brand activism with ‘No Dishcrimination Dinner Set’
VIM, the leading dishwashing brand by Unilever, has created a groundbreaking case study in brand activism with its “No Dishcrimination Dinner Set” campaign, developed in partnership with IMPACT BBDO and BBDO Pakistan. The campaign directly addresses a deeply embedded social behavior in Pakistani households while delivering substantial commercial results.
The campaign tackles a normalized practice in many Pakistani homes: domestic workers being served on separate plates or utensils from family members, often justified under the guise of hygiene. Recognizing this contradiction at the heart of its brand promise, VIM designed a creative intervention that transcended traditional activism messaging.
Rather than a preachy statement, VIM created a redesigned dinner set of 6+1 identical plates that removed the visual cue of exclusion from the dining table. Launched during Ramadan, a time when values of equality and shared meals are especially prominent in Pakistani culture, the campaign moved people through three stages: recognition, via a provocative film that exposed the behavior; conversation, amplified by influencers across social platforms; and adoption, by making the dinner set available in stores and online for consumers to integrate into their homes.
“No Dishcrimination Dinner Set” delivered a 57% sales uplift versus the same period last year, while registering 377 million social media views, and leading to a 3.8% advocacy lift, significantly above the 0.2% regional benchmark.
“At VIM, our purpose goes beyond cleanliness as a functional benefit,” said Salman Sajid, ABM Homecare. “This campaign allowed us to extend that purpose into something deeply human—dignity and equality at the dining table. By transforming a household object into a tool for participation, we didn’t just create awareness; we enabled behavior change. The results prove that when brands authentically connect to real social challenges, they become more relevant to people’s lives.”
Ali Rez, Chief Creative Officer at IMPACT BBDO, added: “The breakthrough of this work lies in recognizing that behavior lives through objects. Instead of asking consumers to agree with equality in theory, we gave them a practical way to practice it every day. The No Dishcrimination Dinner Set became more than a product—it was a social intervention. What excites us most is that this demonstrates how purpose-driven creativity, rooted in cultural insight and behavioral design, can simultaneously drive cultural relevance and commercial performance.”
