M+C Saatchi KARSA appointed integrated communications partner for Merdeka 118 Precinct
M+C Saatchi KARSA has been appointed as the integrated communications partner for PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn. Bhd., following a competitive pitch process. Effective April 2026, the appointment encompasses the Merdeka 118 Precinct and its portfolio of destinations, including 118 Mall, The View at 118, Merdeka Textile Museum, and Look at 118.
The win marks another significant milestone for M+C Saatchi KARSA following its recent rebrand, reinforcing the agency’s growing momentum and reputation for delivering culturally resonant work that moves both people and businesses.
More than an architectural landmark, Merdeka 118 Precinct represents a new chapter in Kuala Lumpur’s story. It stands on ground where the nation’s independence was first declared – where Malaysia’s story began – and today, the precinct carries that same spirit forward as a place where Malaysians and visitors alike can gather, connect, discover and celebrate. As it continues to expand its offerings and strengthen its appeal both locally and internationally, integrated communications will play an important role in building awareness, affinity and long-term relevance for a destination that is, in many ways, where it all began for the country – and where its next chapter is now being written.
Lara Hussein, Founding Partner and CEO of M+C Saatchi KARSA, said: “Merdeka 118 is where it all began. It is a place deeply rooted in our nation’s history, but it is also where we believe the future will converge. Our vision is simple: to make Merdeka 118 a destination that brings people, communities and culture together. This win is especially meaningful for us at KARSA – being part of a project of such national significance feels incredibly special, both personally and professionally. Few projects carry this kind of weight, and we don’t take that responsibility lightly.”
Derived from the Sanskrit word for “creative will” or “conscious intent”, KARSA reflects the agency’s belief that the most impactful ideas are born from purpose. This latest appointment underscores that philosophy in action -bringing together national ambition and creative intent to shape the future of one of Malaysia’s most significant destinations.
As Merdeka 118 Precinct enters its next phase of growth, the partnership signals a shared commitment to building a destination that is not only seen by the world, but experienced through the many perspectives of those who pass through it.
To mark the beginning of this collaboration, M+C Saatchi KARSA is proud to release a brand film that captures the promise at the heart of the precinct, the first of many stories to come from this partnership. It will be followed by Gapai, a Merdeka festive film for Merdeka 118 Precinct, which reaches back to the tower’s founding gesture – Tunku Abdul Rahman’s raised hand, as a symbol of reaching forward, together. Today, that same gesture continues to speak to Malaysians as a reminder of hope, unity, resilience and the enduring spirit of progress that carries the nation forward. In a tribute to 118, the brand film premiered on the 11th of August at 11:08am, and is available to view across all of Merdeka 118 Precinct’s social platforms.
