Arcade’s Marius Talampas wins inaugural Advertising Film Director of the Year at Kidlat

Arcade director and co-founder Marius Talampas has won Gold in the inaugural Advertising Film Director of the Year category at the recently concluded Kidlat Awards 2026, held September 4 at the PNB Grand Atrium. The new category honors a director whose advertising work shows sustained excellence in storytelling, visual authorship, and command of the medium, with Talampas topping the field in its first year.

It’s a fitting title for a director who has built an 8-year career on comedy that sells – smart, non-slapstick humor backed by meticulous craft, from editing timing to casting choices that never let a performance upstage the brand. But this year, Talampas pointed that same instinct at bigger, more serious briefs.

“Marius has always pushed craft further than the brief asks for, and this year he proved that same instinct works just as well on serious subjects as it does on a punchline,” said Jeorge Agcaoili, President of Arcade. “We couldn’t be prouder to see him recognized this way, especially in the very first year this industry award exists.”

It was also great timing for Talampas’ win as the production house and entertainment company he co-founded was also named Kidlat Film Production House of the Year for the fourth consecutive time on the same night, extending Arcade’s run atop the Philippines’ premier advertising and creative awards show after a haul of 4 golds, 11 silvers and 17 bronzes.

Across three campaigns for three different brands, Talampas used comedy to carry messages that don’t usually get an entertaining treatment:

Philippine Airlines ‘Safetynovela’ turned a government-mandated in-flight safety briefing into forbidden romance, family drama, and chase sequences woven around the standard safety reminders – while showcasing Philippine destinations along the way. The result: 33 million views across more than 100 countries, a 17% lift in online bookings, and a 93% safety recall rate among frequent flyers.

Stresstabs ‘Gone Girl’ took on a subject few brands touch – the 87% of Filipino workers living with job stress – by depicting a woman falling apart one body part at a time, reframing stress as something that costs people their sense of self rather than just their looks.

Grab ‘Asenso Series’ put real Grab and Move It drivers in the director’s chair opposite professional actors, using the “drivers to directors” concept to reframe ride-hailing work as a path to freedom, family, and forward-looking livelihood.

On top of these 3 key entries for Talampas this 2026, his film Orocan ‘Let It Go’ promoting Orocan’s 65L Koolit Icebox also took the spotlight in their Kidlat run this year, winning 2 golds in Film Direction and Casting, a silver in Editing, and 2 more bronzes in Cinematography and Production Design.

Talampas’ win adds to a Kidlat track record that already includes 3 Grand Prix and Film Craft of the Year titles, 16 Golds, 24 Silvers, and 43 Bronzes since his first entry in 2019 – a run in which he has won at least two Gold Kidlats every year he’s entered (2019, 2021, 2023, 2024, and 2025). He has also helped Arcade, which he co-founded, claim Kidlat Production House of the Year three years running from 2023 to 2025 – and now a fourth consecutive time in 2026.

“None of this happens without the agencies and clients who keep trusting me with work that lets me stretch what comedy can do,” said Talampas. “Every brief is a chance to exercise the craft a little further, and I’m grateful to everyone who continues to give me that room.”
