Whoscall and Sour Bangkok turn the victims of missed calls into an anti-scam campaign

Sour Bangkok has teamed up with Whoscall, a leading caller ID app, to launch ‘We’re Begging You’, a campaign highlighting an unexpected consequence of Thailand’s scam-call epidemic: people becoming so wary of suspicious numbers that they are also missing important calls.

Thailand’s scam-call epidemic has taught people a simple survival instinct: “if you don’t recognize the number, don’t answer.” And for years, caller ID apps have reinforced the same message: watch out for scam calls. It works against scammers. But it has created another very real problem.

Whoscall decided to talk about the calls nobody was talking about – the good calls.

Hospitals calling patients. Insurers following up on claims. Financial institutions calling about loan approvals. Even people calling to tell someone they’ve won the lottery. The better people became at avoiding suspicious calls, the easier it became to miss important ones.

For the first time, Whoscall flipped the familiar anti-scam narrative. Instead of dramatizing another scammer trying to get through, it gave the other end of the line a voice.

Introducing “We’re begging you”, a campaign built around the real experiences of “good-call victims” – people and organizations whose legitimate calls are routinely mistaken for scams. This time, they’re the ones begging people to download Whoscall – so they can pick up the right calls.

Opening with satirical comedy, the film turns a painfully real problem into something people can laugh at – showing “good-call victims” suffering the absurd consequences of being hung up on again and again. The comedy is exaggerated. The stories aren’t – they came directly from interviews with people and organizations facing the problem firsthand.

Whoscall then brought together partners across industries facing the same problem and turned them into part of the campaign. Beyond the film, the idea spread through out-of-home, partner communications and on-ground activations – even hyperlocal media such as scarecrows – with legitimate callers doing something scammers never would: begging people to download Whoscall.

The message isn’t to answer every call. It’s to know which calls to answer – and which ones to cut.

Pick up the right calls. Cut the scams.
