The Work 2024 Contenders: The Monkeys

| | No Comments

Campaign Brief recognises and showcases the great work that is being produced in the region with The Work 2024 Contenders. Here is The Monkeys’ Top 3…

Telstra: This is Footy Country
The Monkeys
Footy lives in the country. It’s where the sport is purest, players are toughest, and entire towns are built around the field. With Telstra, a 20-year sponsor of NRL and AFL and the mobile network that connects the country, we decided it was time that someone celebrated the greatest version of the greatest sport. Our authentic filmic love letter to country grassroots footy kicked off during the 2023 finals with an epic film directed by Mark Molloy, starring genuine regional and remote townspeople, which over 55% of respondents in post-campaign tracking described as “the best ad they had ever seen.”

Sydney Opera House: Play it Safe
The Monkeys
Since 1973, the Sydney Opera House has stood as a monument to the power of brave, crazy, beautiful ideas. So, to mark its 50th anniversary, we created an original song that celebrated the House’s creative spirit and reminded Australia that the best things only happen when you refuse to play it safe. Collaborating with two iconic and fearless Australian talents, songwriter and satirist Tim Minchin and director Kim Gehrig as well as a host of the House’s resident companies and performers, “Play it Safe” is a visual and musical love letter to ignoring the rules.

VB: England Bitter
The Monkeys
Inspired by the English cricket team’s refusal to share a beer after a controversial loss, Victoria Bitter created England Bitter, a big warm beer for an even bigger bunch of bitter sooks. We changed the name of Australia’s most iconic beer for the sole reason of mocking the English, which generated huge amounts of PR coverage, debate, and even more bitterness from the old enemy. We also sent a whole case of beer to the English team, so they could drown their sorrows with a beer that matched their mood.
