Spikes Asia 2019: BBDO Worldwide takes out Network of the Year + Colenso BBDO Auckland named Agency of the Year

The Spikes Asia Festival of Creativity wrapped up its winners presentation tonight in Singapore with the handing out of all the awards – including the prestigious Network of the Year to BBDO Worldwide.

 

BBDO Worldwide has been named Network of the Year at Spikes Asia 2019. The Network received strong contributions from Colenso BBDO Auckland, BBDO Pakistan, Clemenger BBDO Melbourne, Clemenger BBDO Sydney, BBDO Bangkok and BBDO India. BBDO Worldwide tipped Dentsu and TBWA Worldwide for the evening’s top gong.

New Zealand creative powerhouse Colenso BBDO Auckland was named Asia Pacific Agency of the Year, in front of Dentsu Inc Tokyo and BBDO Pakistan.

Special Group Sydney was awarded Independent Agency of the Year from Loong Beijing and GOVT Singapore.

The Spikes Palm awarde for the most awarded production company went to Tohokushinsha Film Corporation Tokyo. In second place was Revolver/Will O’Rourke Australia followed by Creator Global Australia.

Overall 3945 entries were submitted this year in the Spikes Asia Awards, spanning a broad spectrum of creative disciplines, including the new Creative eCommerce Spike Award, launched in 2019, and Glass – the Award for Change, launched in 2018.

Here’s a short breakdown of the significant winners in each awards category.

Film
The Film Grand Prix was awarded to Hakuhodo Kettle Tokyo and Hakuhodo Tokyo for “10 Sec Drama: The stop line of love” for JMS/TAC. Gold Spikes to Asia were awarded to Dentsu Tokyo “The Kawaii Tweak Hazard Song”, GREY nJ United Bangkok for K Bank “Face/Off”, TBWA Santiago Mangada Puno Philippines for “The Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses to Malacanang or Carmma”, and Publicis Singapore for P&G Vicks “One in a Million”. Special Group Sydney also won a Gold Spike for Uber Eats ‘Australian Open Ambush’ via Revolver/Will O’Rourke.

416 entries were received in Film and 40 Spikes were awarded: 6 Gold Spikes, 15 Silver Spikes and 18 Bronze Spikes

Print & Publishing
The Print & Publishing Grand Prix was won by TBWA Mumbai India for Neurogen “One Mindful Mind”. There was just one old in the category – to FCB New Zealand “Undercover Crosswords”. 80 entries in the category resulted in 7 Spikes being awarded: 1 Gold Spike, 2 Silver Spikes and 3 Bronze Spikes

Print & Outdoor Craft
Revolver/Will O’Rourke and DDB Sydney have taken out the Grand Prix in Print & Outdoor Craft for Foxtel ‘Grave of Thrones’ created with Mango Sydney and Photoplay Sydney. Revolver/Will O’Rourke also picked up a Gold Spike with TBWA\Melbourne for ANZ ‘Signs of Love’. There was a second Gold Spike in the category, awarded to “Truck Art Childfinder” by BBDO Pakistan. From 128 entries, 10 Spikes were awarded: 2 Gold Spikes, 2 Silver Spikes and 5 Bronze Spikes.

Creative eCommerce
In the first year of this category, 53 entries were received, and 4 Spikes Awards were presented: 3 Spikes, as well as the Grand Prix that went to ‘Hagglebot’, for Flipkart Internet, by Dentsu Webchutney, Bangalore, India

Creative Effectiveness
From 33 entries, 4 Spikes were awarded in Creative Effectiveness: 3 Spikes and the Grand Prix win for ‘Project Free Period’, for Johnson & Johnson, by DDB Mudra Mumbai.

Design
TBWA\Melbourne has taken out the Grand Prix for Design at Spikes for ANZ ‘Signs of Love’ created with Revolver/Will O’Rourke. Two Golds went to TBWA Hakuhodo Tokyo for “The Most Challenging Ping Pong Table” and the “Restaurant of Mistaken Orders”.

DDB Sydney/The Glue Society and Revolver Will O’Rourke also won Gold for Foxtel ‘Grave of Thrones’, Wunderman Thompson Mumbai for the Jimmy Nelson Foundation, whiteGREY Sydney for Volvo ‘Living Seawall’ and Deloitte Australia for Deloitte ‘The Beginning of Everything’.

A total of 304 entries were entered in Design and 34 Spikes were awarded: 7 Gold Spikes, 9 Silver Spikes and 17 Bronze Spikes.

Digital
Clemenger BBDO Melbourne has nabbed the Digital Grand Prix award and a Gold Spike award for Myer ‘Naughty or Nice Bauble’ developed with Creator Global, Ikon, Romano Black and Wave Digital. Dentsu Webchutney Bangalore scored Gold for “Voice of Hunger”, CHE Proximity Melbourne for NRMA ‘Safety Hub’ and DB Breweries “I’m Drinking It For You”. There were 362 entries in Digital, 36 Spikes were awarded: 4 Gold Spikes, 11 Silver Spikes and 20 Bronze Spikes.

Digital Craft
93 entries were received in Digital Craft and 12 Spikes were awarded: 2 Gold Spikes, 3 Silver Spikes 6, Bronze Spikes and the Grand Prix went to Dentsu Inc Tokyo for ‘Stradivarius: Timeless Journey’, for Tokyo Stradivarius Festival 2018 Committee / Nippon Violin.

Integrated
37 entries were received in Integrated and 3 Spikes were awarded. Clemenger BBDO Melbourne has taken out the Integrated Grand Prix for Myer ‘Naughty or Nice Bauble’ via Creator Global, Ikon, Romano Black and Wave Digital. This is the second Grand Prix awarded for the campaign. No Gold was awarded but two Silvers also went to went to ‘Naughty or Nice Bauble’.

Outdoor
TBWA\Melbourne picked up its second Grand Prix for the night – this time in the Outdoor category for ANZ ‘Signs of Love’ with Revolver/Will O’Rourke, PHD Sydney and Thrive PR + Communications. Gold Spikes went to Loong Beijing “A Team of One” Organ Donation, “The Quiet Taxi” for Hyundai by Innocean Seoul, Clemenger BBDO Sydney has scored a Gold Spike for Wrigley’s Extra ‘Extra Reminder’. Gold was also awarded to “Truck Art Childfinder” by BBDO Pakistan.

237 entries were received in Outdoor and 18 Spikes were awarded: 4 Gold Spikes, 5 Silver Spikes and 8 Bronze Spikes.

Media
Special Group Sydney and media agency Mediacom Sydney have taken out the Media Grand Prix at Spikes for Uber Eats ‘Australian Open Ambush’ developed with Revolver/Will O’Rourke, Tennis Australia and Channel 9. KFC “Christmas Pocket Store” by Isobar China scored a Gold Spike.

Australia picked up a further four Gold Spikes in the Media category; TBWA\Melbourne for ANZ ‘Signs of Love’; CHE Proximity Melbourne for NRMA ‘Safety Hub’; Mindshare Sydney for Fox Cricket ‘Monty: The World’s First Predictive Commentator’ and Host/Havas Sydney for Air New Zealand ‘Bring on Winter’. In total 335 entries were received and 31 Spikes awarded: 5 Gold Spikes, 11 Silver Spikes and 14 Bronze Spikes.

PR
291 entries were received in PR and 27 Spikes were awarded: 6 Gold Spikes, 8 Silver Spikes and 12 Bronze Spikes and the Grand Prix went to ‘A Team of One’, for Tencent, China Organ Donation, by Loong Beijing in China.

Mobile
CHE Proximity Melbourne has secured the Mobile Grand Prix award for NRMA ‘Safety Hub’ developed in conjunction with IAG Sydney. HO Communication Shanghai was awarded Gold for KFC “Pocket Franchise” and Clemenger BBDO Melbourne also won Gold for Myer ‘Naughty or Nice Bauble’. From 100 entries in Mobile, 12 Spikes were awarded: 2 Gold Spikes, 4 Silver Spikes and 5 Bronze Spikes.

Film Craft
The Grand Prix in Film Craft went to Hakuhodo Kettle Tokyo and Hakuhodo Tokyo for “10 Sec Drama: The stop line of love” for JMS/TAC. This was the second Grand Prix for the campaign after it also won the Film Grand Prix. 264 entries resulted in 26 Spikes being awarded: 3 Gold Spikes, 7 Silver Spikes and 15 Bronze Spikes

Film Craft saw Revolver/Will O’Rourke score an impressive three Gold Spikes – the only Gold Spikes awarded in the category. The production company scored Gold for Old Spice ‘Next Episode’; AT&T ‘The Shot’ with Biscuit Filmworks LA and Berlei ‘Boob Balls’ via The Monkeys and Heckler.

Entertainment
Govt Singapore has picked up the Grand Prix award in the Entertainment category for Julie’s “The Translator”. Publicis Singapore scored Gold for P&G Vicks “One in a Million”, and Dentsu Webchutney Bangalore managed two Golds in this category for “Voice of Hunger” and “Code Name: Uri”. There were 155 entries with 17 Spikes awarded: 3 Gold Spikes, 4 Silver Spikes and 9 Bronze Spikes.

Glass – The Award for Change
From 26 entries, 3 Spikes were awarded: 2 Spikes and the Grand Prix went to ‘Sons #ShareTheLoad’ for P&G India, by BBDO India.

Healthcare
In Healthcare 141 entries were received and 13 Spikes were awarded: 2 Gold Spikes, 5 Silver Spikes and 5 Bronze Spikes and the Grand Prix went to ‘#StopMithani’, for HDFC Bank, by Leo Burnett Mumbai.

Brand Experience & Activation
In the Brand & Activation category the Grand Prix was awarded to FCB India for The Millennium School “The Open Door Project”.

Gold Spikes went to Innocean Seoul for “The Quiet Taxi” for Hyundai, Dentsu Tokyo for “Postable Fukushima Local Paper”, “Truck Art Childfinder” by BBDO Pakistan and to Dentsu Webchutney Bangalore for Flipart Internet “Hagglebot”. Australia scored two Golds – one to Special Group Sydney for Uber Eats ‘Australian Open Ambush’ and one to TBWA\Melbourne for ANZ ‘Signs of Love’ both produced via Revolver/Will O’Rourke.

Direct
The Grand Prix in Direct was awarded to Grey Bangladesh for their highly regarded UCB UCash “Agrobanking” campaign. This campaign also picked up a Gold Spike. Wunderman Thompson Singapore picked up Gold for Lux Purpose Campaign “Into The Spotlight” and Clemenger BBDO Melbourne won Gold for Aboriginal Victoria ‘Deadly Questions’. 290 entries were received and 25 Spikes awarded in Direct: 3 Gold Spikes, 9 Silver Spikes and 12 Bronze Spikes.

Innovation
In the Innovation category BBDO Bangkok won there Grand Prix for Homepro “7:1 Furniture Collection”. Innocean Seoul picked up an Innovation Spike for “The Quiet Taxi” for Hyundai and Naked Sydney won for RMIT University ‘Sans Forgetica’. 28 entries were received in this category.

Music
The Grand Prix for Music went to “I’m Drinking it for You” for DB Breweries by Colenso BBDO Auckland. The Music category also saw Clemenger BBDO Sydney score a Gold Spike for Wrigley’s Extra “Support Acts”. 53 entries were received in Music and 6 Spikes were awarded: 1 Gold Spikes, 2 Silver Spikes and 2 Bronze Spikes.

Radio & Audio
From 69 entries, 7 Spikes were awarded: 1 Gold Spike, 2 Silver Spikes and 3 Bronze Spikes, and the Grand Prix was taken by ‘Night Shake Drill Broadcast’, for Fukushima-Minpo Co. / Radio Fukushima Co., by Dentsu Inc Tokyo.

The Grand Prix for Good
The Grand Prix for Good was awarded to ‘Stop Dowrymongering’, for UN Women, by BBDO Pakistan, Lahore, Pakistan
