“The Makers” series takes an International tour to trace modern Japanese luxury with INFINITI

The Makers Series creates a stage for craftsmen who are redefining their traditional craft with new practices. With The International Chapter, INFINITI wants to bring the Makers platform to their local markets where they identified one Maker from each market who embodies the spirit of Modern Japanese Luxury in their craft and show how Makers all around the world embody this philosophy.

In a world that is so connected and ever changing, any design aesthetic, even one inspired by place like Japan, changes shape depending upon the interpreter. To explore the evolution of Japanese design beyond its own borders, “The Makers” International Chapter travels from the Middle East to Taiwan, Canada and finally, Mexico. The 4 episodes will be released in a monthly cadence starting from this December.

Each episode highlights an artisan with a deep connection to Japan but who is living and working outside of the country, to formulate their own personal aesthetic through cross-cultural experience. The first stop is in the Middle East to the atelier of designer Nada Debs, a designer who grew up in an Arab household in Japan and later studied in the United States. As an adult, she made a move closer to her roots, landing in Beirut to better understand her Lebanese and Arab identity. For Debs, craft is a feeling that goes beyond geography, language and culture. Discover the universal language of her designs in our very first episode of “The Makers” International Chapter.
