Dentsu Hong Kong promotes Wai-Chung Au to Managing Director: CEO Anna Chan departs

Dentsu Hong Kong has elevated current General Manager, Wai-Chung Au to Managing Director in a reorganisation of its media leadership.

A 20-year media veteran, Au (pictured top left) joined dentsu’s media service line in 2021. He has played a vital role in the agency’s growth, development of new media capabilities and client management of some key relationships such as Standard Chartered Bank, Kao Group and Ocean Park.

Meanwhile, Toyohiro Bando (pictured below), current Chief Solutions Officer, will take up the General Manager role of dentsu X, one of the media agencies brands under dentsu group. Bando joined dentsu in 2012, first in Shanghai and then Tokyo before moving to Hong Kong. His primary focus has been transferring innovative services and products from dentsu Japan to benefiting clients in Hong Kong.

The changeover to the new structure is part of agency’s response to the departure of Anna Chan (pictured top right), who is leaving her role as Media CEO in March to pursue her new personal adventures.

Both Au and Bando will report to Simone Tam, Group CEO, dentsu Hong Kong. Tam said: “We are excited to have Wai-Chung and Bando-san in their new roles. They are well-deserved promotions. We now have a very strong group management team in Hong Kong, and we are confident that we have the team and expertise to provide our clients with the highest level of future-facing resources and capabilities in the market.”

Tam added: “We are saddened to see Anna leave but we are so grateful for her tireless efforts in elevating our media offering since she re-joined us near to 2 years ago.

Au said: “I am very honoured to take on the expanded responsibilities to further build our capabilities and strengthen our client partnerships by fuelling their business growth. This is an exciting time as Hong Kong is now poised for rebound and growth.”

“I am also looking forward to partnering with Bando-san, as he leads dentsu X as part of the dentsu media service line. I am certain that with the group’s support, we can conquer all the challenges ahead of us, and demonstrate our passion and capability with powerful performance for our clients and ourselves.”

“I will miss the dentsu Hong Kong family a lot.” said Chan, outgoing Media CEO of dentsu Hong Kong. “It was a rewarding and enjoyable experience, and I am thankful for Simone who has given me this valuable chance to have met so many talents in the team. I am sure the company is in good hands with Wai-Chung driving the media business. His dedication and professionalism always motivate people around him to do better and grow together.”
