2023 Campaign Brief Asia India Creative Rankings: Dentsu Creative ranks #1 in India with Ogilvy, DDB Mudra, Leo Burnett and FCB making up the Top 5

Dentsu Creative India’s dominant 2022 puts them on top of India’s agency table in the 2023 Campaign Brief Asia Creative Rankings. Most of the agency’s ranking points come from 2022 awards won by Dentsu Webchutney, prior to the name change to Dentsu Creative. Ogilvy Mumbai, DDB Mudra Mumbai and Leo Burnett India take out 2nd to 4th in a close contest, separated by only 155 points.

 

Dentsu Creative India has amassed 3550 points in the Campaign Brief Asia Creative Rankings to be named India’s 2023 Creative Agency of the Year agency. Dentsu’s multi award winning “The Unfiltered History Tour” was their most successful campaign. The campaign, created by Dentsu Webchutney, dominated at Cannes Lions 2022 winning 4 Grand Prix’s, 2 Gold and 3 Silver. At One Show 22 it won a Grand Prix, 7 Gold, 9 Silver and 2 Bronze and it won 5 Grand Prix’s at MAD STARS 22 and 4 Grand Prix’s at Spikes Asia 22.

Dentsu also won major awards at Cannes 23, Spikes Asia 23 and D&AD 22.

With 2540 points, Ogilvy Mumbai has ranked #2 after also putting in a strong award-winning performance in 2022 that sees them rise for #8 in India in 2020 and #5 in 2021. They won multiple awards at LIA 22 and Cannes 22 for their “Shah Rukh Khan-My-Ad” campaign. They also won awards at Clio 22, One Show 22, D&AD 22, Campaign Brief’s THE WORK 22, MAD STARS 22, Cannes 23, Spikes Asia 23, One Show 23 and Clio 23.

DDB Mudra Mumbai has ranked #3 in India for the second Creative Rankings in a row with 2425 points. The agency enjoyed great success at AdFest 23 + 22, Spikes Asia 23 + 22, CB’s THE WORK 23 + 22, Cannes 23 + 22, One Show 23 + 22, LIA 22, MAD STARS 22 and D&AD 22. Their biggest award winner was “Machine Gun Mouth” for Krafton.

Leo Burnett India is a big improver in the India rankings, scoring 2385 points to rank overall #4. Having been a strong performer so far in 2023, Leo Burnett has done well at AdFest, Spikes Asia, D&AD, One Show, Clio and Cannes – where their Airtel “175 Replayed”, Oreo “#BRINGBACK2011” and Lay’s “Smart Farm” campaigns all saw success. They also won awards at Cannes 22 and LIA 22.

Interestingly, Leo Burnett has a lot of momentum going into 2024 with more than double the points so far in the 2023 calendar year compared to any other Indian agency.

In #5 is FCB India with 1605 points. FCB’s best performing campaigns included “The Nominate Me Selfie” for Political Shakti and The Times Of India, “ChatPat” for SOS Children’s Villages India and “Unbox Me” for UNAIDS. They won awards at Cannes 23 +22, Spikes Asia 23 + 22, D&AD 23 + 22, Clio 23 + 22 and One Show 22.

VMLY&R India and VMLY&R Commerce India have ranked #6 and #7 both putting in good performances over the past 18 months. Both agencies were not even ranked in the 2021 Creative Rankings.

With 1135 points VMLY&R India had a strong Cannes 22 and also picked up awards at LIA 22, New York Festivals 22, MAD STARS 22, D&AD 22, AdFest 23, Spikes Asia 23 and NYF 23. Their biggest awards contributor was “The Killer Pack” for Maxx Flash which won 2 Grand Prix awards at Cannes 22.

VMLY&R Commerce India has scored 840. A top performing campaign for them was their UNILEVER “Smart Fill” campaign. VMLY&R Commerce has won awards at AdFest 23, Spikes Asia 23, D&AD 23, Clio 23, One Show 23, Cannes 22, MAD STARS 22 and New York Festivals.

Making up the remaining four positions are BBDO India with 540 points, McCann Worldgroup India with 465 points and L+K Saatchi & Saatchi Mumbai with 130 points.

BBDO’s success has come from their good performances at LIA 22 and AdFest 23. They also scored awards at Cannes 22, One Show 23 and Spikes Asia 23.

McCann Worldgroup won awards at AdFest 23, D&AD 23, LIA 22, Cannes 22 and Spikes Asia 23 + 22.

Talented launched last year and already are making an impact with 170 creative ranking points – all of these points came from Cannes Lions 2023.

All of L+K Saatchi & Saatchi’s rankings points have also come in 2023, following awards at AdFest, Spikes Asia and One Show 22.
